Air Con Issue: Losing Gas

Featured Replies

I have had my Octy for 3 years now and i am genuinely happy with it and although its starting to show its age now (rear wiper stopped, steering wheel showing its age etc) i still want to keep it as long as possible. There is just one problem (aside from the cosmetic stuff) that is bothering me especially in the heat and that is the Air Con has stopped working. I was aware that there was a leak for 2-3 years but id just get it regassed every summer and it would last me the 3-4 months we had the hot weather. Apart from this year as i took it to my local Air Con Fill er Upper and he said "mate there is a huge leak, its gone from 15 bar to 8 bar in 22 minutes" to which i replied.... bu**er.

Anyway, he looked for basic leaks and he cant find any in the engine bay so he is assuming it is the Evaporator. How likely is this, has anyone had cause to remove it? is it a complete mare to get to? he was saying its a dash off jobby and this scares me as im looking at 6-8 hours labour plus parts...

Any advice welcome.

Mine was leaking recently and eventualy found valve was at fault where u gas up

I'd be surprised if it was the evaporator, changed two since the Octavia II was launched.

If the system has had dye in it and the evap is leaking you will see dye around the a/c drain.
