Average MPG

Featured Replies

I was hoping it would keep recording until I sold the car...that was my intention. All was well until I had it serviced a week or so ago. Now the system resets itself after every trip. I've studied the manual and it says that average MPG will be continually recorded until it is reset. I have never reset it. Do I have a serious problem?

Many thanks.

Mike.

I don't have maxidot, Mike, so my situation may be different , but I think my No.2 trip settings reset after 20 hours (this includes the average mpg.)

Should have two trips

1 should reset after a time period and the other needs you to reset it manually

Never know what they will change next while having a service, I've known a few people have updates applied and it cost them 5mpg more than when the car went in, software and cpu's I guess.

Thank you.

`Trip` though is surely `distance`.

My concern is with MPG.

There are two readings, current MPG and average MPG since the last time it was reset.

I have never reset the average MPG and yet it resets itself after every trip.

Maybe have to take it back to the dealer.

Thanks all.

Mike.

Trip is whatever you do on that trip - mpg, distance, speed etc.

There are indeed two trip 'computers'.  Computer 1 resets itself when you stop for more than about 40 minutes, and the other just keeps going for all the journeys you make.

My Computer 2 hasn't reset itself at all and shows the numbers since I got the car, which was when I reset it from whatever it had done at the dealership (it was an ex-demonstrator or such, first registered to Skoda UK before I got it).

In each Computer for each journey, there is a current mpg and an average mpg for the whole journey.  You'll see the current one fluctuates loads as you drive, the average, naturally, doesn't so much.  If you reset Computer 2 at the start of a trip, it should be the same as Computer 1 at the end of the journey.  But for the next journey, Computer 1 will start from zero, Computer 2 will continue like it was one big journey.

Make sure you know which one you're looking at (sorry if that's teaching Grandma to suck eggs), I know I've looked at the wrong one by mistake.

Hope that helps.

Hi Mike

I'm inclined to view this as a glitch, as I had the same when I first got the car. Then all of a sudden it disappeared and started behaving as it should and has since.

Hi, Steve.

Yeah I too think there is something amiss because it is not working now as it did before its first service.

Back to the dealer in a few days.

Thanks for this `Yearofthegoat`

I'm afraid I have a little difficulty with `Computer1` and `Computer2`. All I know is that in the Maxidot display, turning the little wheel on the steering wheel would scroll between `Distance left in the tank` - Current MPG - Average MPG - etc. The average MPG would never revert back to zero. It now does, so there must be a problem somewhere.

Mike.

If there's a little '1' top right of the mpg display, you're on computer 1, which records the trip mpg. Press the right-hand scroll wheel on the steering wheel (the one that scrolls through the mpg, range etc. etc. menu) and you'll find it changes to '2', which is the overall mpg. (That's what mine does, anyway.)

Thank you. I'll have a bash at that.

Under the right hand stalk there is a button with the ignition on press this and hold it in for a few seconds, and everything should ziro itself, then go for a drive just briefly press the button under the stalk to change between 1 and 2 that is shown in the top right of the screen, you can then scroll through both menus using the button on the end of the stalk

Sorted. Thanks everyone.

Mike.

After 100 hours travel time (computer 2) all my "2" reset, that is travel miles and average mpg.

That may explain why all my computer settings re-set yesterday. It was only a coincidence it happened at the same time my "up" paddle shifter refused to work. It is about time I RTFM again.

Steve

FYI this happened on both 1&2 settings on mine. Seemed to correct itself after a few months and haven't noticed it again, however I don't often use MFD.

Doesn't say anything in mine about resetting everything automatically after 99 hrs 59 min, only the elapsed driving time. Mind you, the manual isn't the clearest ...

"Driving time

The driving time which has elapsed since the memory was last erased, appears in the display. If you wish to measure the driving time as of a particular time, you must set the memory to zero at this moment in time by pressing the button  B on the windshield wiper lever or the handwheel  D on the multifunction steering wheel for longer than 1 second. The maximum distance indicated in both memories is ... 99hours and 59 minutes in vehicles with an Information display. The indicator is set back to null if this period is exceeded."

"Average fuel consumption

The average fuel consumption since the memory was last erased is shown in the display. ... If you wish to determine the average fuel consumption over a certain period of time you must set the memory to zero at the start of the measurement using the button  B on the windshield wiper lever or with the handwheel  D on the multifunction steering wheel. A zero appears in the display for the first 100 m you drive after erasing the memory."

Note 'after erasing the memory', not 'after the memory is erased'. That indicates to me that it has to be done deliberately'
