Another "how much is it worth" thread ... sorry!

The time has come for my Fabia and I to part ... I need something bigger so I need to sell my VRS

I was just after some advice on what sort of price to put it up for, and it's got a few niggles - whether it's worth getting these done now or taking the hit on the sale.

It's an 04 Plate Fabia VRS in Silver, I am the second owner, and the first owner was also a Briskodian. It had covered 39k miles in December 2011 when I purchased it, and now it's sitting on just over 68k - I'm now doing about 1k / month in it.

Serviced by Skoda up until Dec 11, then independants / VW Specialists (including Shark Performance) since.

It has a Shark performance remap (165bhp), and a new LUK clutch and DMF fitted 12 months / 13k miles ago at a cost of £853. Beautifully smooth.

Cambelts done at mid 30k and in March this year, new front pads a few months back too. MOT is due in March.

Every single reciept for every penny spent on the car ... including the original purchase. It has wanted for NOTHING. Only washed by hand by myself, meticulous care is taken, and is only ever cleaned with a huge range of Autoglym products. Takes me about 4-5 hours usually :-)

4mm all around on tyres - Rainsports on the front and Hankooks on the back.

Few little niggles -

fair few stone chips on the bonnet

driver's side alloy has a few scrapes and a bit of detoriation

battery cover clips have snapped off

fuel filler cap rubber strand (the one that attaches it to the inner cap) has detoriated and snapped

rear licence plate could do with replacement as it's starting to show wear

driver's side wing mirror glass has some water ingress

They could just be me being picky to be honest!

Also the bump stops on the rear shocks have deteriorated and dropped, but I'm going to sort this before putting it up for sale in a few weeks.

Generally an incredible machine, pulls smoothly and strongly, mechanically excellent as I'm told at every garage visit :-)

Oh, and it has a towbar! I've never used it ...

Sorry if it sounds like an ad, but want to take everything into account.

How much would it be worth? I'm hoping on the upside of £3600, possibly pushing to £3800 but that might be a bit optimistic, even with it's excellent history.

It's important to me that it goes to a good home as although it's been remapped it's never been abused, and its been an awesome and reliable car. I bought it with my redundancy money after losing my job with a car, so it means a lot to me.

Any help / advice would be really really appreciated. I'm looking at putting it up at the end of the month.

Thanks!!!!

Is it really worth that little? I was honestly hoping for a little more, as everyone who sells their car does I suppose!

The average on the across the net looks around £3400, up to over £4k for Traders with a higher number of owners, and no clutch replacement / cambelt history.

I suppose it all comes down to what someone's willing to pay for it!

Its 9 years old dont forget.

A new fabia is due out soon as well.

If it was mint then maybe £3500. Your description says its not mint though so honestly I'd say £3000, maybe a few hundered more depending on the buyer.

Yeah, I think that's next weekend gone, weather permitting! To be honest the general condition inside and out really is excellent, and the paintwork is stunning, but the few little bits that need tidying, is mirror, licence plate will add that extra value and give a better impression. I was even thinking of going as far as replacing all the wheel badges, but I don't think itd add much to the price! Thanks for your honesty and help btw.

My mate bought an 05 68k miler in silver recently for £3950 (private)

As its a year older and a little bit tattier id aim for somewhere on the region of £3500-3750

I'm hoping to get everything bar the alloys and stonechips sorted in the next week - already got someone sorting the bump stops out for me next weekend, just need the few little bits sorting and it'll be close to mint. It'll be a shame to sell it by the time I'm done!

Sounds like you love the car, will be devastated when it goes I bet.

I'd say you'd get around £3,400 for it private sale if you find the right buyer, who appreciates the TLC the car has had over the years.

Just don't let it go to another kid with money who thinks a car needs to be "ragged" about.

Don't worry, I won't let it go to anyone who won't look after it - I owe the car more than that. I couldn't stand for it to go to someone to be abused. The previous owners had enough time wasters and chavs trying to take it for test drives, but they turned them all away. Think I'll be taking the same approach. Since I'm not in a rush I'll stick it on here first, then Pistonheads a while later, then the Trader and Gumtree if I get desperate. Let's hope it stays within Briskoda!

6 months ago i bought a 1 previous owner 55 plate with 80k on the clock

full Skoda service history (14 stamps)

cambelt and water'pump done and totally standard engine and body for £2700

i personally wouldnt buy a car allready remapped but thats personal preferance

i viewed loads that were advertised for £3300 upwards

with your mileage been low id say you will get £3300 easy

Yeah, I totally understand with the remap - I was exactly the same - I wouldn't have touched a car that had already been mapped. I've been half tempted to have it taken off but I'm going to leave it on for advertising as I like to be upfront.

I'd be happy to have it taken off before selling, but it would be such a shame - the whole character is transformed with the remap ... The lumpiness goes and its replaced with silky smooth progressive power and torque. Really transforms the car, and the beauty is you don't have to use all the power. Its probably the best money I've ever spent on a car and would recommend it (obviously only a good map) to anyone with the 130bhp engine.

Looking at my budget for my next car, I think £3300 would just about let me comfortably move on... We shall see!
