Are dealers interested in emailed enquires

Featured Replies

Does seem odd someone would make consider buying a car by email.  Spending £10 to £15k would demand more of my time than dealing by email. You wouldn't make purchases of high value items like cars and houses by email or on a website either.

For starters no dealer is going to give you a price for a used car without seeing it.  Secondly you won't be able to see what you are buying and make a judgement on the worth of the car.

I wouldn't discuss deals on cars even on the phone when I'm buying or selling, only in person, had plenty of classified ads for cars in the past and trying to agree on anything is completely fruitless.

If I were in T 1000 position I would keep what I have and wait until more time is available.

I would never have brought the car through email, the email was used as an initial enquiry through the dealers own websites the sections which say value your car. so I was looking for an initial px price if that was in my range I would have driven my car to the dealers to do the deal. At the moment I am keeping what I have unless a really good deal comes up.

how long does it take to sit down and compose an email compared to calling, leaving your details and then sitting back waiting for them to answer your questions? Also I find you get more of a 'feel' for the salesperson having spoken to them.

You can guarantee if they do answer your email and give you an idea of trade in price, the eventual trade in price will be nothing like the original estimate.

For a guesstimate this will be a ball park figure  http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/prices/used/

Conversely if a dealer can't be bothered to take the time to answer a simple query by email then they are likely to lose my custom.

If I want simple facts clarifying then e-mail is the most appropriate way of doing it, I can send the mail at a time where it doesn't interfere with my schedule and likewise the dealer will be able to respond when the showroom isn't particularly busy.

I totally agree. If they offer an email facility then I expect them to reply to a reasonable enquiry.

Not everything can be sorted out by email but for a non urgent query its ideal.

It's also handy to have some things in writing.

It's often not about the time though. There are many times at work where can send an email but can't phone so. I've also found often the salesmen are busy so need to ring you back. This then begins the phone tennis which is just frustrating and can often go over days due to timings. Emails get around this as it's answered/sent a soon as they are free and then you can also deal with it as soon as you can

It's simple. If you provide a facility on your web site you should support it. If you don't - remove it from your site

That bit, YES!
