I'm off on the family holiday to France on Saturday and was wondering if anyone knows if diesel is much cheaper over there? Last year it wasn't that different from what I remember.

 

I've got half a tank, which should see me a good way into the first leg but do I brim it over here first or wait until I hit the Autoroutes?

Diesel is cheaper anywhere else in Europe than in the UK, however the differences are no longer as big as they used to be.  I guess more of the other countries are copying our robber government.  When I drove to Paris, I had filled up in England on the way out (having driven from Belfast to Dublin, Holyhead to Dover on a tank), and in France on the way back.

Diesel is cheaper than petrol in Europe too by around 10cents a litre

Outside Calais you get Gazole for around 1.33-1.35Euros or so, or £1.15-£1.17-ish a litre, so yes, cheaper than home.

I know it is a little cheaper, but I always fill before we leave home, we are only 50 miles from Dover, reason being if I've got a 700 mile drive in front of me the last thing I want to do when I get off the Ferry or Shuttle is stop for fuel!

But I will always fill the tank just before Calais on the way back, as for some reason never seem to be in much of a rush coming home off holiday!

Lol when we where heading to Paris, my husband suddenly developed an urgent need to pee. By the time we found a toilet he had to run from the car.

Carefully filling the car up to much for the ferry etc as many cars get damaged scrapping their undertrays as the are so loaded/heavy.

Looking for overloaded vehicles, which the Department of Transport would hand out fines for, easy to go over the max weight with lots of bottle of booze, luggage, people and a tank of fuel might push you well over the vehicle weight limit.
