Spec the Canton = sound generator delete

Featured Replies

Chatting with a Skoda dealer the other day who said adding the Canton sound system resulted in no sound generator activation as the two are not compatible (and in any case it would degrade the high sound quality).

Might be a useful way of doing away with the horrid sound generator for those not keen?

Funnily enough I queried my local dealer about canton/sound generator as I could not see how they would play happily together, the canton is supposed to perform some sort of noise cancelling after all which would potentially render any generated noise null and void.

My local dealer isn't a clued up as yours obviously as he wasn't even aware of the cantons noise cancelling features.

Can the sound generator be turned off?

I believe that's what the vRS button does. Though I could be wrong.

The sound generator can't be turned off. I like the sound (get it?) of the Canton cancelling the sound generator though! I was going for it anyway.

Oooh I've ordered canton so if that cancels the noise generator that will make me an extremely happy bunny!

Ta for the info, I would imagine most dealers don't know this, I didn't see it in the brochure anyway.

I'm not in the slightest bit bothered (I have ordered Canton), but it's nice to know before I pick the car up and don't start raising pointless queries with the dealer.

My local dealer told me that the vRS button (on the DSG at least) sets the noise level of the sound generator to correspond with the E/D/S driving modes plus a Custom volume mode.

I cant see why you couldn't set the custom volume to 0, effectively switching it off.

Like I said though, he didn't seem too clued up and had to research the vRS button as he wasn't aware of that either.

is the vrs button only on the petrol?? I don't recall seeing anything like that on the diesel one I test drove

Again (to be taken with a pinch off salt) my local dealer said the vRS button was only appearing on cars built from week 30 onwards, so I guess most if not all demonstrators wouldn't have it.

My dealer told me that sound generator and Canton works (I ordered both).

VRS buton on VRS octy replacing driving mode buton on regular Octavias.

who needs a sound generator, i like to make racing car engine sounds going along the road doing the astonoshing speeds of 30mph. Some times i even change the sound to a V8 Scania.  and no im not going to grow up lol, It's better than picking yer nose.

I don't make V8 sounds myself...    I have the XLR8 app on my iPhone.  Works a treat - but only if you mount it in a cradle.

Interesting, I was under the impression it actually played engine noises through the speakers....

I haven't got either and can't hear the engine in my car -I have the stereo far to loud
