Towing trailer

Featured Replies

hi, please advise if you can as I have no owner manual.

Octavia Estate 2.0TDi 08 plate 140, with 115K mostly M-way miles. Towing will be minimal - 5 hours at most.

Half motorway, half city driving.

Ifor Williams BV85 braked, twin axle trailer, unladen weight 770kg.

Driving with empathy, not expecting to cause harm to clutch, Dmf etc.

Anyone know towing capacity (combined weight of trailer & contents) for this vehicle, or where can find it?.

Also, must insurance company be advised of towing activity?.

Thanks very much for any help.

Hi,

Owner manuals are available on this forum - link here

There is a plate in the b post between the two doors on the passenger side - might help.

As for the insurance, I tow a small livestock trailer on occasion for my uncle. I declared it to my insurance company and they didn't have a problem. I think you will find trailer towing is explicitly mentioned in your policy. My issue was the farming side of it. A tow bar is obviously a modification but necessary to allow you to tow something as allowed by my policy. I mentioned the tow bar wasn't factory fitted and they didn't have a problem with that.

My advice would be to ring them and they will note it on your file. If there is an extra charge then go elsewhere next year.

Sorry I can't help with specifics.
