Hi all I have been offered a cupra r 225 bhp engine. My question is if I have it and restore it over the winter ie new uprated parts will it drop in to the Vrs or will I have to modify it and will I get 225 bhp or 180 bhp cus of my ecu

Will go in straight and a good upgrade.

It is already upgraded over the STD VRS engine

But you will need the Cupra R:

Exhaust Down pipe

MAF

ECU or map your VRS ECU to work

Yes you will get the 225 BHP if ECU is mapped or matched to the BAM engine or even more depending on the mapping

That's brill thank you time to start planing lol

Make sure you get the turbo too as it and the ECU are the main differences that equate to the extra 45bhp. Even if you just get the engine, some of the internals are stronger in the BAM so you can plan on building a real beast!!

While going to that effort you should try to look at a few other modifications that would be easy with the engine out, why stop at 225?!?

You will of course find that you have even less bottom end than the AUQ engine setup...

One more question lol what internals and other mods would you sergested to replace then? Would love a beast for 1/4 mile drag strip more power please ;) and part numbers and makes thank you

Chris

I guess you'd want the 2 SMIC's & pipework too if you haven't already got a FMIC on your VRS.

Ok????? Lol what is fmic? And should you keep the octavia gearbox will I take the power

Me being blond front mount inter cooler!!!!

FMIC = Front mounted intercooler.

That question has many possible answers buddy.

Depends of what you are after.

As you have benefit of fitting a BAM engine(Cupra R/Audi TT/S3 lump) the engine is stronger then the VRS engine so you could take well over 300 bhp out of it with no engine upgrades needed. The Turbo on the BAM engine is a K04 as apposed to the K03s on the VRS so is bigger and can take better mapping.

Fitting a good exhaust , FMIC with a good ECU remap is going to see anything up to 270 bhp maybe more.

Bigger turbo is needed to extract the 300+ mark and if you are going for 340+ engine upgrades needed

consider a LSD added to get best from your gear changes and traction if using to get quickest 1/4

Also depends on your wallet size too.

only thing I know wrong with the 5 speed gearbox is the **** differential.

As said, a LSD would be great especially with the very long 1st and 2nd gears, it should make a good gearbox for the drag strip. Definitely need to do something about the traction off the line, it is not great standard.

To try keep the intake temperature and lag down you could go for a low volume front mount with minimal pipework.

Why not just spend the money on your engine and go straight to stage 2 , 245 ish bhp  this has to be a lot cheaper  , plus try explaning to your insurance all the changes and modifications will cost a fortune to insure with the bam engine, not all the engines are 225 bhp as standard some are 215 bhp so make sure the code on the engine is defo bam.

Engine swap isn't as expensive as people think..

Not quiet bam conversion but this is my auq with single pass intercoler and bam inlet manifold,

Not quiet got round to changing pipework from turbo to OS of bumper yet to how it is on cupra r's but gives you a general idea,

Hey sky insurance I would love to see the insurance quote for an under 30 year old with an engine swap with remap plus other mods to engine and suspension and exhaust ,
