What class of car is the Roomster?

Featured Replies

Our main family car is a top spec 2010 Renault Scenic. Lovely car to drive, is very comfortable and roomy. However being French the build equality leaves much to be desired. I was just wondering if any Roomster owners know how the space and comfort compares between a Roomster and a current model Scenic? I ask because the Scenic is due changed in 6 months.

Having just read your Citigo / Fiat question my sugestion is to go back to Mulholand and ask for a test drive with the Roomster I am sure the will accomidate you. I have a roomster SE 1.2 TSI 83ps and are over the moon with it. It is very versitile, well built. Ideal for a family of 5. I must admit I know nothing about the Scenic but knowing something about the French build quality there is no comparence, the best thing is to look at a Roomster and test drive one and see if it is the vehicle for you. I am sure that Mulhonds will only be to pleased to give you a test drive as they want to sell cars.

I had a look in the one in the show room and it was nice. Roughly the same price as my Citigo. Dash looked low tech compared with the Scenic, but it was a low ish model, so not fair to co pare with a car that was nearly twice as expensive. The interior looked well made. Would love to see the top spec version.

Forward of the B post it's 100% Fabia.

So the dash is a little bit basic as it's an old design, let down a little bit by the three big plastic dials for the heating high up in the centre.

But nobody can deny it's a lot of car for the money and very practical!

Some bargains out there too.

There is no Elegance version as on other models.

So you have to go for something equalling mid spec in other ranges and add what you want.

Roomster =  Posh Van

Personaly I find (because I am an old git) the dash is plane and simple and easy to find things I would sugest you look at the top of the range and they have all the gismo's including tempreture control and satnav I am sure the salesman will be able to show you through all the range of bits and pieces that you can have added that you may require, the other option open to you is the Yeti that won the car of the year 2013, but the only way you will find out what car is best for you is to go to Mullhand and tell the salesman what your requirements are and they will guide you in the right direction, then it is up to you. Both vehicles are extremely well built as you already know from the Citigo which you purchased and the quality is carried through all the range. Skoda also have the most uptodate assembly plants in Europe the last one was completed in March making the Roomster. If you look on Youtube there are some films showing some of the Skoda models being made, worth a look. Any way good luck with looking for the new car what ever you eventualy purchase

This old git has the top spec version of the Roomster (Scout) - and he loves it.

My only criticism is the Scout has 16 inch wheels with no 15 inch option.

All other versions of Roomster have 15 inch wheels with 16 inch optional. (Go figure!)

This does give the Scout a firmer ride than other versions.

My next Roomster will be an SE 1.2TSI DSG - although I might just consider a Yeti instead.

As the other old git said - go for a test drive.......and enjoy!

 Oh welcome to Briskoda CitigoAli we don't bite, honest

I've just ordered 'my' Roomster.  Got excellent help from Briskoda members, as well as doing my own research. Decided to avoid the Scout because of the larger (firmer ride) wheels.  SE currently has decent spec.  Added: factory-fit spare wheel (essential), passenger airbag off switch (should be standard), third rear headrset (expensive to retrofit), protective side mouldings, front fog lights, cruise control, heated front seats, black roof rails, and 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel. Dealer will fit mudflaps, rigid bootliner (vital for muddy dogs), door sill protector strips, and AutoGlym Lifeshine inside and out.

Our 2008 Fabia Estate is top spec, and I'd recommend spending the extra to get as high a spec as possible.  Going the extra transforms a good car into a fantastic car.  I'm not selling the Fabia - she's being passed on to one of our sons.  Buying the Roomster as now needing MPV - but a narrow MPV.  Current Roomster is 1684 excluding the wing mirrors, which isn't much more than the Fabia's 1642.

Buying my Roomie from Wings of Peterborough - our third Skoda from Wings as we've had outstanding service from them.  We actually live in the Channel Islands (natives, not tax exiles!), but the dealership in Jersey is so awful that most people don't go there twice.

PS Didn't opt for climate control.  The Fabia has it, and I don't get on with it.  Our '02 Octavia has manual aircon and it's just fine.

I'm guessing I'm not an old got then. My Roomster runs factory fit 17" wheels, and I don't find the ride firm.

So much so I opted to lower it +/- 70mm, poly bush, add a rear anti roll bar and front strut brace.

Damn I feel all 'young' again :giggle:

To answer the OP's question, it's moar lower class ;)

I always thought that the roomster bears a striking resemblance to a Renault extra... I saw them both parked side by side in asda the other day and I wish I had a camera on me... So that puts it in a whole class of it's own for me.

Good choice, with some great extras...Just took delivery of mine yesterday with very similar spec to yours. I certainly agree about the passenger air bag..Watch the heated seats though, when you get it. They work very well but on mine they have fitted the switches the wrong way round and I set the drivers one on and nearly burned the wife`s bum  ..we can laugh about it now but the dealer says its a major job to fix..ie dash etc out and do a part rewire.....still Skoda will be paying. But I really am loving this thing, its quirky, not everybody has one, doesn`t look like a `Euro Box` and is very versatile...for what I paid I`m delighted..All the best with yours......delivery takes ages though

Talking about Hi-Fi, I'd say Roomster is the T-Amp of the car world.

Whippersnapper

J5 - you have inherited the roles vacated by Irfant and Decron.  In particular, it was Decron's knowledge and enthusiasm for the Roomster that persuaded me to buy mine.  I may be an old git but I do admire your Roomster and consider it in a class of its own.

In answer to OP's question - I haven't driven a Scenic but I have owned another French car - a Berlingo.  Build quality was poor and the car had to be returned to the dealer many times for warranty work to be carried out.  I would buy another Roomster in a heartbeat, but I will never buy another French car.

Pope class, hence it's nickname on the forum ;)
