Cruise control not always latching in

Featured Replies

I have a problem with my cruise control not always latching in (2006 - 1.4TDI 70). If I try to activate it, I sometimes get the initial surge of speed, but when I release the button the speed then drops off and it does not want to latch however many times I try at that moment. If I try later in the journey, I can sometimes get the cruise to activate. I am assuming that this may be a clutch or brake pedal switch, but am getting no errors reported through VCDS. The other thing noticed is that if I slide the cruise switch using the top edge of the button I get the surge, if I use the bottom edge I sometimes don't. Has anyone experienced this or is able to suggest how to test the switches.

there is a way of testing the on/off function of the switch via vcds. I dont know if that will help you though

The switches can become faulty over time. Electrical contact cleaner has helped in the past. Just spray it past the edges of the switch(es) then operate them a few times.

I have a similar problem with my fabia combi from 2003.

when I am driving on cruise control, and disengage the cruise control, when re-engaging, I have to push and hold the reset switch al the way above the pre-set speed. if I only push it once noting happens, and if I hold it for a while the car accelerates, but as soon as I let go of the switch the car slows down again... is this right?

Just throwing this out there, wonder if its worth checking the brake pedal switch as thats part of the circuit

So is the clutch pedal switch :)

I've noticed a similar issue on the wife's vRS.... One thing i have noticed is that it happens more often when it's cold. It might take a couple of attempts to get it to stick at the speed initially but if i then have to do it again say ten minutes later it's all fine. :S

My cruise control started playing up slightly, not always setting and resuming. (mk1 Fabia)

So I cleaned the stalk switch contacts with a cotton bud and nail varnish remover and it completely solved my problem.

It takes less than 5 mins and I used this guide : http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=88148
