Exhaust Control System Light

Featured Replies

Hi guys, for the past 2 days as I have been driving around having a little fun with my car putting it through its paces, as it almost hits the red line for some reason for about 10 seconds the exhaust control system light flashes on for about 5 - 10 seconds. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if they know what may be wrong with the car?

Cheers Ryan

Welcome to the forum.

Best get it checked at the Dealers for codes showing.

Refrain from booting it till you find out why this is showing.

How old is it, how many miles on it, and are you running it on 98 or 99 ron fuel?

The car was registered in january 2011 and it has just tipped over the 12k mark. Im running it on normal shell fuel not vpower so whatever that is? And it has a full skoda warranty so does that mean any dealer will check it for me under my warranty?

I would fill it with Tesco Momentum 99 or Shell V Power Nitro.  This should sort things out.

The car runs on Minimum 95 Ron, but 98 RON is recommended.

(highly recommended actually 'By me.!'.)

Worth having codes checked and Spark Plugs looked at,

Do you know if the car has had its Skoda ECU Update at the first service if required

or if the car ever had a re-map or similar before you bought it?

Has it had a 1 year/10,000 mile service & a 2 year/20,000 miles service and oil and filter change?

Okay ill run a few tanks of Vpower through her and see how she runs. Ill drive a lot steadier for a couple of tanks and then give her a good boot and if the problem persists then I will be going to the dealer about this. No the car never had a remap but i dont know about any ECU update? and yes it had its first service at 8500 miles cuz thats when the previous owner part ex'd the car in.Thanks George :)

Just me, but i would use Tesco Momentum 99, not just because it is 5 pence a litre cheaper than Shell V Power,

i would use it if it was £2.40 a tank more than the Shell V Power Nitro.

Even Sainsbury Super Unleaded is worth using and maybe cost no more than your Shell Saver 95 RON.

All the best.

EDIT PS.

From the link i put in post #4, i see lots of slagging the Tesco Momentum.

All the Specification on this fuel and the Supplier Greenergy' is available online,

http://www.greenergy.com/Products_services/Product_information.html

http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenergy

'All the Spec' gets listed publically, not so with Royal Dutch Shell and their Products.

Any Fuel Problems with Tesco Fuel and you will get a very quick response from Tesco Customer Services,

not always so with Shell or other Independently owner and run filling stations.

Okay then I will give tesco momentum 99 a go. It sounds good to me that its cheaper than shell too :) thanks for the advice George, I will let you know the outcome :)

havent read Georges posts, so sorry if its a repeat, but the light you refere to is showing misfires, normally caused when booting it using 95 RON fuel, put proper petrol in, and all should be fine ;)

Just filled up with "proper petrol" ;) so we shall see how that works and I will inform you guys :)
