Octavia rear wiper not working

Featured Replies

My 2006 Octavia has had an intermittent problem with the rear wiper for about two years now

(The problem being that it only wipes when I hold the arm) or little pressure is applied to the arm.

Anyway as we are getting into the wet weather I thought it was time I started to investigate the problem. Removing the rear boot lining was a difficult task to say the least But the real problems began when I started to remove the actual rear wiper motor. The three nuts that retain the motor in the holder inside the boot was an absolute doddle and came away quite easily However removing the nut on the wiper arm was very difficult and once that was off (after a quantity of WD-40) Actually removing the arm was impossible as it wasn't moving. An hour and a half later and the arm still wasn't moving. In fact it was so rusted that it would appear to rusted all the way down actually into the motor as well which would probably explain why the washer didn't work for the unit either.

Two hours and 25 minutes later two hacksaws and angle grinder and eventually the motor is off, I was going to see if I could try salvage the motor but as I destroyed it trying to remove it I think it's past repair stage I will replace the whole unit.

Has anyone any got Any ideas where I can get a reasonably priced rear wiper motor? i need the complete unit I've looked at eBay and I don't wanna get a second hand it just seems false economy. I know Rainworth motors are quite well respected locally however they are still asking about £86.

Any suggestions?

Hello had the same problem with my rear wiper motor, I posted an add on 1st choice parts which is national site for most breaker yards in the uk. I had loads and loads of replies I paid £35 including postage with a 3 month warranty. Make sure before you order that you state if the wash jet is on the wiper arm or not as this makes a difference ie won't fit. Good luck. Ger

£86 sounds fair to me.

A very common problem on the Octavia hatch.

A few on here have stripped them down and repaired them but it sounds as though that isn't an option for you now...

In all fairness it's not now, due to my angle grinding skills

I have spent an hour or so calling different dealers and aftermarket companies and the price difference in the same part is incredible!

Most dealers asked for £74 + VAT but a dealer in Birmingham wanted £108!

I ended up with a good deal from Rainworth Skoda - delivered for £72
