Skoda: A problem every manufacturer would like to have

Featured Replies

Interesting piece written by Phil Huff, some may have seen before as originally published in May 2013, relatively complimentary about all models.

There are few car brands that still hold the power to surprise. Beyond the occasional concept car that looks like it’s been designed for interplanetary travel (yes, I mean you, Lamborghini Egoista) most manufacturers bring out evolutions of existing models, with small iterative improvements, tiny changes here and there. Some manufacturers quietly boost the abilities of their products ahead of the general curve, building some great cars that too quickly get overlooked or forgotten about.

One such company is Skoda. I’d long...

Not a penny, at least not by Skoda. I was on the launch of Octavia and Superb, and loaned a Rapid and Yeti (Octavia vRS coming in September) and was impressed with what I found. It's an unashamedly positive piece, but sometimes that's nice to write.

I see what you did there. Very good.

I enjoyed the review. Nice to see something positive and written because you wanted to. I follow you on Twitter and always found your reviews interesting.

It isn't a surprise really though. Think back to those very early JD Power surveys and the world was shocked by what Skoda delivered. Every survey since has replicated the results and even years later we still see Skoda sitting at the top of the satisfaction tree.

The point about VW is bob on imho. I'd been planning a B7 CC to replace my faithful old B6. Priced it up and its not going to happen, as much as I had loyalty to the VW marque I refuse to be ripped off. The Octavia may be smaller(ish) but it fits my needs and is a much more realistic option. I'll remain loyal to VAG but as my mk1 Octavia proves, Skoda does it better.
