knocking from drivers side front

Featured Replies

have just replaced drop links, ball joints, dog bone bushes, wish bone bushes, arb bushes with up rated ones on my 52 plate vrs as it has all standard and original stuff fitted and bushes were pretty shot and I was getting a knock when driving off and stopping.after all of this replaced I still have a knock (lovely handling car but still an annoying knock.lol)

I put it on a mot ramp today with the shaker and we couldn't find any movement anywhere underneath so now out of ideas what is knocking.any ideas guys?

Top mounts?

changed and uprated with new decent bearings.got some new front pads coming and going to eliminate pads knocking in carriers.dont know what else after that

Have someone sit in the rear. Mines worked out to be the exhaust knocking.

well have checked exhaust and found centre mount broken so welded that back on....still knocking.

found the drivers side engine mount buggered so replaced that...still knocking.

replaced front pads in case they are moving in the carriers...still knocking.

I have now replaced the whole front end bush wise inc top mount bearings, drop links, ball joints, front pads, engine mount and sorted exhaust hanger yet still have a knock when I pull away from the drivers side.have had the car on mot ramp with the shaker on and not a single bit of play or movement anywhere so completely baffled

Could be inside the shock absorber itself. Have you got a shock tester at work? May show it up?

We had a Peugeot 106 in with a knock, but it only knocked when the steering was in a certain position. We couldn't see anything wrong but took a gamble with the strut and it sorted it

Steering rack been checked out?

Gearbox mount?

Radiator mounts ok?

Seems silly but it's not swinging around on acceleration or anything like that?

everything checked and no movement.got mot on Saturday and will see what he picks up but will probably put new shock on.only thing left to change now.

Bushes in the subframe rear mounts? Or did you have the subframe off and not replace the bolts?

I had a similar knock

Ended up being the driveshaft on the way out :o

Hi guys,

Having had a good read, I think I conclude that the knocking/creaking noise upon breaking, slow speed and over bumps will be any of assorted front bushes or a link (sorry not a techy at all), taking it into the garage tomorrow and just wondered how much you think it's likely to cost - it's just I don't want the garage to take the mic out of a girlie so at least I can be prepared.  What are the main differences between driveshaft on the way out vs the bushes, I don't want them to quote me a big job for the sake of it.

Thanks in advance for your help, cheers Caz
