HID kits, 35w or 55w

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has fitted HIDs to their Mk1 Octavias, 35w or 55w? I know 55w is what is meant for normal bulbs, but obviously HIDs are a lot brighter. I had them on my first car, Mk1 Punto and they were great, but did blind a lot of people I'm sure with not having Projector headlights.

Also now the law has changed, if anyone does have them fitted, do you get trouble with the police pulling you over or anything else?

Cheers Mike

Edited reference to police, please refrain from using that again

I did :) and must say, did it very decent, without blinding people from opposite direction.

How? Simply cause an old mk1 Octy (not FL) has straight cut off bottom side headlights which prevents huge light dissipation to upper positions (above cut off line). I even have a decent cut off for non OEM HID. No one (ever) had a complaint from opposite direction at night. Never had a problem with police. Although..don't have a sprinklers but this could be easily installed :)

My suggestion is to buy 35W AC OLLO aftermarket HID 5000K (pure white illumination on ground).

Cheers.

I'd love to know how you worked that one out. I never had any bother with the police when I had them, plus it was my first car and I didn't know anything about them, just thought they looked good so didn't hesitate to buying some. I don't see how buying a small cheap hatchback and installing hids instantly makes me a chav?

On another note thanks for the normal feedback to you other lads. I used to have 55w h4 in my punto just for the fact I didn't know how bright they would actually be, plus like I said I know normal bulbs are 55w. I also used to have 6000k but most people I saw on the roads had 8000k. I thought 6k was the whitest then any lower started to get yellow.
