Rattling noise.

Featured Replies

Right i just bought the mrs a fabia 1.2tsi and there seems to be a rattle from under the dash when the engine is at idle. When i popped the bonnet it seems to be coming from the top of the engine somewhere but as soon as you hit the accelarator it dissapears. Bit annyoying but dont think it is anything serious. Has anyone alse experienced the same symptoms?

I've joined the forum specifically to offer a solution to this annoying rattle. It happened in my Fabia tsi 105 [new in Sept 2011] a year after new, and it took my local Skoda garage almost 6 months to solve under warranty! The rattle was only at idling speed 700 revs, and disappeared above 800. It varied from mild to disturbingly loud!

It's the fuel pipe, located when you open the bonnet on the left (driver's) side close to the wheel arch protusion, and is [i think] near vertical. If the rattle is sounding, touch or squeeze the pipe and the noise should stop. The technician at first thought it was rattling against the wheel arch, but an isolation remedy failed to stop the noise (although it reduced the level).

The garage had an earlier Fabia (at least a year earlier if I recall) and noticed that the routing of the pipe was quite different to mine. For some reason Skoda had changed it. Solution? It was re-routed to match the design of the earlier Skoda - I've had no trace of a rattle in the 4 months since then.

The garage said this problem was not in the Skoda UK data base, but I've seen others on this forum having the same problem, so I hope this helps.

When I first went to look at mine, with 14k on the clock it was indoors at the garage and that sound was evident and loud. I insisted the car be sent to Hortons Skoda who checked it out and said it was okay. They claimed the Tsi has 2 fuel pumps and it was these that could be heard, also that the noise was made worse by the car having been standing, not started, at the garage for some time and on first start up it exaggerated the noise.

I have to say the noise has disappeared apart from the customary unique sound the Tsi makes, which to me (if it were an old 1950,s 60,s engine) would just be classed as a bit tappety.

There are a number of threads which give various reasons for noise,Fuel pumps, Turbo Wastegate , Rattling fuel line and Cam Chain tensioners all being blamed so I suppose it's take your pick.

Thanks for this Lee, it could hopefully solve the issue where SWMBO gets this in hers.

Have to say, the Fabia cracking car, I really enjoy driving it!!

I have just experienced this same problem, it has been going on for some time exactly as described by petrovsky.  The car is the same model a Fabia 2 TSI 105.  2012 first registered.  I had recently experienced a problem of surging on tickover and took it to an independent Skoda Dealer to check on VCDS for problems.  While the car was there they also investigated the rattle problem and found the fuel line problem.  The mechanics said that if the fault was not rectified it could become serious if the fuel lines developed a leak.  Anyone who thinks they have this problem should go straight to their dealer.
