Fabia Mk2???????

Featured Replies

I have just bought an Octavia. When I was in the dealer I had a look at the Fabia (and Superb). Couldn't help but notice that the standard of finish etc in the Fabia is a bit behind the Octavia nd Superb. Not surprising with it being the oldest model I suppose. I also read that despite being a year or so newer VW has just given the Polo a major face lift with everything forward of the windscreen being new.

I wonder if there is any news of a new model or major face lift of the Fabia in the pipe line.

There was a facelift last year. The replacement is due in 2007 I think so it's doubtful that anything apart from spec changes will happen before then.

It must have been minor as I have not noticed any changes. I suppose the face list on the Mk 1 Octy was fairly subtle.

Mk2 has different gearbox, the indicator has the touch-to-blink-3-times thing, and the rear light cluster has changed. For the rest it's pretty much the same I think, at least on the vRS. Most Mk2 have aircon as standard too, and most of the cars got the central locking thing as standard if it didnt have it before.

For the rest - vRS was increased in price, the rest was decreased in price. Fabia Sport was introduced too.

Octavia facelift included a rear wash/wipe and therefore ranks as one of the most useful and significant facelifts of all time.

:)

If its a rear wash wipe wouldnt it be more of an a r s e lift?

:doh::rofl::D drifting toward a r s e wipe isn't it? :o

No comment  (why does the word BIG come to mind, just can't think why ;) )

Rubbish, the fabia finish is just as good as the Octy etc and the build quality of Skoda in general is better than it VW counter part IIRC.

 And having had a sit in a Rover 25 you realise just how good .Dearie me :o

Edit: Posted comment in the wrong thread :o

Still it's a shame that the Fabia dashboard has such a cheap feel, not to mention the plastic surrounding the heater and ligth controls, which reminds me of the plastic containers they sell ready-to-eat green sallads in in the super market.

I know it's dictated by VW, but it's still a shame.

Having been in a Passat Highline yesterday, I can confirm that the Fabia has superior interior plastics!

However, it also has slightly more interior rattles... :thumbdwn:

I remember a review that said something like "interior panel gaps rival cars more than 3 times the price". I believe the Fabia has fantastic build quality really, and is certainly on a par, if not above that of VW. I know Audi is slightly more classy inside though.

Aparently the dash on the fabia is pioneering as skdoa is one of the first companies to mold the whole dash in one piece.

IMHO the Fabia dash does have a certain "cheap" feel to it due to the plastics...however, I notice looking at pictures of the new Golf interior and the like these seem to look fairly similar...

I guess anything with a plastic interior is going to feel pretty cheap though.

Rob.

The Fabia interior is leagues behind the Octy II however (IMHO) ;)

Between my Octavia vRS and Jane's Fabia vRS the Fabia feels much nicer and dare I say plusher.

I find that some cars with wood in them feel a bit cheap.Aston Martins were also accused of feeling a bit cheap once

Octy II is a big, big improvement over Octy I from what I've seen at the dealer. The Fabia is probably roughly in the middle, from a quality feel point-of-view.

Kinda makes sense I suppose, as the Octy I -> II just had to be a big step to catch up on the rivals in that department. No doubt the ICE has improved as well (if it hasn't I'd consider that to be a disgrace). :D

I must say that I still easily prefer any of the Skoda Fab/Octi dash over the fake-wood-like-plastic the 200 series Rovers used to have.

Well the new Octavia is leagues ahead of the Fabia in dash quality (having owned both) and the Fabia's dash is of a higher quality than the Octy 1. When the new Fabia is launched, I can see the cars quality being either the same or just a little bit higher than Octy 2.

I think as you wll see from the other posts that the concensus is that the Octavia interior is better than the Fabia, just as the Fabia was better than the original Octavia.

Atleast on like VW the quality is going the right direction with each new model in Skoda. Read in current WhatCar that just like the Mk5 Golf, the interior quality is lower in the new Passat than in the out going model.

Isn't there some sort of eco-friendly legislation which means that things like plastics have to recyclable/biodegradable? I wonder if this is why they're all so flimsy and deteriorate with age... :rubchin:

I am assuming it has arrived Roo :orb_party

Unfortunately there are several errors in that statement, owing to the fact that Skoda continually update the cars not just at facelifts.

The prefacelift vRS model had the revised gearbox many months before the September 2004 facelift - possibly as early as 2003.

The indicators had the "touch-to-blink-3-times thing" action prior to the facelift - certainly on the vRS model.

I agree the rear light clsuter changed - and there are a number of other changes documented elsewhere on the forum.

The vRS was NOT increased in price at the time of the facelift - but shortly afterwards (early October?) - my car was
