Sept 1st - 63 reg

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have an a new Fabia on order (1.2Tsi Elegance), which has already been built.

It will be with the dealer next week, so I'm hanging on for the 63 reg.

Now my question is, my dealer won't hand it over on the 1st, as it's a Sunday.

The reason being that any registration issues can't be sorted out, as it's a Sunday.

So I will probably take delivery on Monday, the 2nd.

Anyone else encountered this?

Never heard such a load of old tosh

could be they cant tax it on a sunday so cant give you the car

Yes, I think it may be a tax issue.

Mind you, since June new cars are sent out without a tax disc.

DVLA sends you it in the post.

Sunday is their busy days for sales,

and hardly the best day to collect a car when its only sales staff in, if there are any issues.

There is a thread on this page of a members bad experience of a Sunday Hand Over.

If you are not too far from the dealership i would go on Friday to Inspect the car, see you are happy with everything,

then they get till Monday to have it perfect.

Monday (and this new Reg day) must be a day with many other people collecting cars as well,

so its usually appointments for hand overs.

Enjoy your car when you do get it,

I'd rather wait and get it on the 2nd.

Am I wrong thinking that some dealers now print their own tax discs?

Frankly I am surprised that the dealer won't hand over on the 1st, lots of dealers open at midnight to hand over cars. The least they could do is bring in a few extra people to assist in sorting out problems should they arise. It's only twice a year after all.

Personally I'd pick it up on Monday though.

Tax Discs after the First Registration are sent out to the registered keeper from the DVLA.

You do not need to display a Disc for 14 days.

Normally the Disc will arrive before a week, if it does not get to you in the 14 days, you can get one issued at the post office.

No, that's recently changed.

They used to get them from a DVLA local office.

Now they have to be sent out by DVLA command.

my dealer had tax discs they issued with a stamp that said "Dealer" where the post office stamp them at the bottom

so long as they had the 7 day cover note, finance and proof of ID / license they issued the tax disc

so this sounds like tosh to me

that explains why our dealer was pushing us for the 7 day cover note for our citigo due 1st sept with plate transfer from existing car

Thanks for the info George and all.

I'm not fussed about a Sunday handover, if I'm honest.

Monday the 2nd is fine for me.

I will be going to the dealer next week, when they should have the car.

The last thing I want is for them to rush the PDI.

All Cars now are taxed on Line and you can run around for 14 days without displaying a Tax disc
