Radio Problems

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have an Octavia Estate 1.9 and the standard factory fitted radio has been losing power, intermitently and randomly for a couple of months now. It has steadily been getting worse and now hardly works at all.

It must be a power issue so I tried changing the fuse but it did not help. I also tried removing the unit to have a look - I managed to remove the fascia, screws etc but I was unable to pull the radio right out because there was no "slack" in the wires behind it, and I didnt want to pull it too hard. Incidently, I did this when the radio WAS working and trying to pull the radio out made no difference to the power, possibly eliminating a fault in the wiring behind the unit (?)

I must stress I am a total novice when it comes to electrics (or mechanics for that matter) and I have no clue on how to fix this problem without paying someone a fortune. Any help in here will be humbly appreciated.

Try with vcds, maybe it's not a wire problem... Maybe there's a colleague with a VCDS near you.

Also try to remove radio back wire, antenna/s and then take out the unit.

Maybe the problem is a burned wire or a ground wire with intermitent connection, both typical electric problems.

There is plenty of slack in the HU wires behind. They are wrapped around a plastic part behind the HU housing.

I swear I read somewhere that this could be due to a faulty ignition switch. Or did I imagine that?
