vRS Rally - Is it worth the extra?

Featured Replies

Folks,

Pretty much as the title really. Considering a new vRS is around

If it was my money I'd shop around for a used Octy with some options such as ESP, cruise control and parking sensors. This would probably cost less than a WRC model and would essentially the same car with the addition of cruise control but without the graphics.

The performance of the standard VRS is the same as the WRC version.

Andy, it depends. I was quite fortunate to get mine for less of a premium, but still a premium over a newer less milage "standard" vrs.

If I were starting over, honestly knowing what I do today and planning to modify the car...I'd find a non vrs version 1.8t and start on that.

Now that depends how far you are planning to go with modifications.

If you after a normalish one then the vrs is brilliant.

The rallye one, well there are only 25 of the 100 in the UK, or RHD ones anyway.

Stickers can be removed.

IMHO it's now today not worth the 4+k difference unless your a real fan and want that white stickered exclusive feel. I could not buy one with the sticker pack that was delivered on the car, hence I brought mine as it was de-stickered.

WRc has a different ride to the normal vrs, cornering is the only potential difference, possbily different dampers, but never confirmed.

Heated seats, xennons, esp, white, 2"x1" bit of alluminium with a number on it.

As of 2004 you could get xennons, heated seats and esp as options.

Any dealer expecting 17K for a 3 yr old rally is having a laugh.

Weren't they

I have found this (hope it works, if not have a look at autotrader for vrs rallys you should pull up five results, it is the one at 13950):

It is a bit of a treck for me, but I am flying down to London in two weeks time so can drive it back up.

The reason why I am thinking about it is because it is different and for anyone who knows me different is good.

I'd ask who's remap it is ;)

Some are better than others and others are I fear lack lustre and distracting.

i seen a destickered one the other week

 <------ says it all

There's a limited edition Octavia vRS rally car here (I think it's number 7 out of 100), tuned for rally, all white (it was de-stickered) including alloys going for about 10,000 pounds worth. It's not a second hand, but it's a 2001 model and the warranty is void. Thing is it's so 'new', it has about 400kms on the clock it's sitting on display in the showroom. It's got lowered suspension too...it's so pretty...

I'll take a picture when I can and post it up so you see for yourselves.

Think it's still waaaay overpriced - I wouldn't want to pay any more than 10.5K-11K for it bearing in mind how much I paid for mine 13 months ago, with much much lower mileage. And remember, mods don't increase value, so that's no reason for the price to be inflated

Incidentally, that car (S100 SGR) has been for sale for probably close to a year now. It was up at some crazy 18K price band and has steadily dropped, but it's still way over the odds.

De stickering... it dosn't that sort of defet the object of the WRC...you might as well by a normal VRS and paint it and have change?

Like buying a ham sandwich and taking out the ham!

That'd be an aftermarket one then.

The Rally is identical externally to the standard vRS in every way except it's stickered and white, with white wheels.

But those wheels look good close up.......must admit the stickered cars do get a lot of attention (been in 70/100 very nice :D )

People always say that... but hardly anyone gives me a second glance... Except BMW 3-series drivers, who seem to enjoy looking down their noses at me... because in their eyes I'm obviously a sad **** who put stickers on a white Skoda to try and make it look fast.

Usually they then start to look harder and notice the large brake discs all round... then the green calipers... then the fat tyres... then they notice the half leather and the fact that even in midsummer heat I have all the windows shut.

Then they look the other way.

Went into a dealer a few weeks ago looking for an octy 2, ended up shooting the breeze with the salesman who said "the graphics on the WRC cost

It's ****.

From the prices I've seen for various bits of the decal kit' date=' it'd be about 1200-1500 max. My local vinyl place would no doubt do it cheaper.[/quote']

Still a lot of cash.

I had a look the other day oddly enough on our ETKA. The side decals cost
