I'm back again! Going to order Octavia instead of the Superb. 1.6 DSG ok?

Featured Replies

Hi

I went for a test drive the other day with a view to buying the Superb Elegance . The main reason for this was after adding up the options list on the Octavia 3 the Superb was only a few pounds out and thought it would be a larger car for the money.

After trying the Superb Elegance I found that my left knee kept rubbing against the dashboard central section. I call it Skoda Knee. I would be ok if I went for the DSG as the lack of clutch pedal would allow more room for my leg to stretch out. Maybe I need to try again before I place my order.

I then tried the Octavia estate in the showroom and a result my long legs fitted in  fine. I found the SE spec seats really comfortable with the Elegance seats a little firmer but still great.

I liked the omph from the 2.0 150bhp but not sure why but felt the 1.6 was ok and very smooth.

I have a problem with my muscles and the DSG/Auto will be a must from now on.

Could owners of the 1.6 DSG give me some feedback please about how the car is in general for power and smoothness of the DSG as this a different box comapred to the Superb. (amazed how effectless the 170 dsg in the superb was but too expensive for me).

Many thanks

My favourite subject.

We run a 1.6TDI/DSG in the Octavia II.

I am very pleased with it, a pure pleasure

(and my left knee nicely wedges in against the centre console, but this is good, as it keeps my lower back wedged back into the lumbar support)

Except!

For the slow speed manouvering on a slope/rough surface issues.

Where it wilfully drops out of gear, despite the throttle demanding 2000/2500 rpm, a software glitch I presume.

That and the horrible delays during forward reverse manouvering, classically when 3 point turning.

BUT

Once moving I would not have any other gearbox, and when coupled with the DSG the 1.6TDI is plenty adequate, for the type of driving I do.

Regards,

Marcus

I was really surpriced about the combo of 1,6 and DSG. Tried it with manual gearshift, but the car felt quicker with the DSG. For my kind of driving(I live in Norway with avarage speedlimit of 50mph) the 1,6 DSG is plenty enough. Looking foreward to get mine!
