build quality sucks.

Dash board rattle.....I believe this can be fixed by remove the centre air vent and tightening the dash mounting nut behind there.

I think Jason...Devonutopia...did this ages ago....so you may find his post somewhere.

My Octy driver's seat squeeked...first dealer could find it...another dealer did and seat based replaced under warranty. Guess who I go to for my servicing now? ;)

Now at 10,000 miles - no rattles, no warranty items, nothing amiss at the 10,000 service, advised no fault codes reported, using virtually no oil...

I think the Fabia is a remarkably high quality product.

I took the more liberal approach... The "shove a bit of bicycle inner tube between the mount and the dash with a long bladed screwdriver" technique. Have to do it again with my current car soon too, but might wait until it actually has power first. :o

There seem to be quite a few areas where the build quality/design and strength of many components are not upto the job. i.e. front wishbone rear bushes, underbody protection, "clip in" front wheel bearings. I guess it is a cost issue.

mine seems fine now except when you close the right rear door the light cluster rattles

I have said it before, but sod it I'll say it again. I have owned stupid amounts of cars from a Ford Cortina to a Vauxhall Chevette to a XR3i to a VW Jetta/mk2 Golf/mk3 Golf and a mk4 Golf V5 and NONE of them compare to the quality of my beloved Fab vRS, not even the VW products. This is even before you take into consideration the price of the vRS.

Dont get me wrong, i have picked up and lost one or two rattles since ownership on Sept 1st 04 BUT come on people its a heavy piece of machinery that sometimes has to negotiate some of the very worst roads in Europe, or the world. Cars are highly complex pieces of machinery and have many moving parts so something somewhere IS gonna vibrate. Unfortunately we DONT have roads made out of dead flat fluffy marshmallow we have roads made out of harsh pitted, potholed, bumpy concrete/tarmac and dont anyone tell me that there is a car in use today that doesn't at some point rattle, squeak or knock when driving on some of these roads.

Anyway, thats what I reckon.

Quick check' date=' does the noise go away when the seat are down?

If so the have a look below the metal hoop part of the catch when the seats are down. There is a little rubber stopper much like you get on the underside of a bonnet. Unscrew it a few turns, this should take up the play int he seat backs and stop the rattle.[/quote']

I have "clicks" on back seets (only when nobody is on it). i can't repet that clicks if i try to push or pull backseat only when i'm driving. do you think is there problem with lock mechanics? is it problem that you talking about?

where are you from? :)

Don't close that door ;)

:wavey: Alright mate? :D

Just to point out for others, this is the voice of experience from working on my car with all the engine works going on... dodgy subframe bushes, yup, dodgy bearings which literally just clip into the hubs with little effort... Does seem a little dodgy. Underbody protection is semi-OK but I found chips in that "protection" and decided to underseal the whole lot, and I'd recommend anyone else too as well. :)

I`ve had mine for 3 years now and only now something has gone wrong, and is only the fuel filler cap flap not locking.

The car has never let me down.

Sometimes, the bracket here can break. It did on my car and is apparently a known issue.

I personally cannot stand any rattle in a car and so far (10,000 miles in 3 months) I have been very pleased with the rattle free environment that I drive in with the vRS. The only annoyance at the moment is a buzz from the N/S door trim when Massive Attack are giving my speakers a workout. That will soon be sorted when I fit some new components from those nice people at blue spot. So build quality from Skoda get a  from me.

Thinking about it I've worked on a huge variety of cars old and new and they just aren't built as well as they used to be. Throw-away culture!! It's sad really. Time will tell! Everybody is so obsessed about the little numbers on their plate.

That's so true, once had a 1995 BMW 316i, "Upgraded" to a 2000 316, the build quality didn't come close to the older style one - I belive that its even more noticable on Merc's

My car makes an annoying whining noise when I drive it hard... comes from the front passenger seat.. :D

Try winding the stops out a bit.

i did it, and it worked!

thank you a lot!!

I have owned 12 cars in my 40 years and this little vRS is the best built of the lot of them, mind you my last car was a Clio 172 so anything would feel well put together after that heap of crap.

My right side mirror rattles when I have sub 120Hz frequencies bellowing from the speakers. I gotta change it anyway, it's got a funny marking on it that looks like the kind when the moirror finish is not complete.

Lyserman, that buzz only sounds like you have some resonance going on in your car..the eminent band of frequencies by Massive Attack (probably low frequencies) is what I think is causing your buzz. To get rid of it you'll need to fit some insulation foam or something inside the doorcards...

No problems ;)

I reckon cars are getting better, every replacement i get has always been more reliable. I remember a Mini that nearly always broke down in the rain (as did many a Ford), a Metro that spontaneously combusted due electrical problems, and an Astra with such bad engine managemant problems that Network Q took it back after they had it for 3 months and it still always cut out. The exceptions are BMW/Mercedes because they took the p&*s and tried making cars more cheaply and living off the name.

Hmm French cars have gotten worse. Electrics never being their strong point, admittedly.

You can tell the real quality of a car when it's past it's first (few) owners - with 100k miles on the clock, what's been replaced, what is broken and beyond economical repair. Simple cars cost less to fix generally. Leccie windows are great, until the motor packs up, in which case it's expensive. Still, that's a choice.

More-and-more it's about 'the car must last xxx miles'. Guessing the recycling directives may actually cause manufacturers to go further in that.

Problems so far up to 21k on my VRS

after 500 miles - turbo siezed

after 1000 miles - engine management light plus air hose split

after 1500 miles - low oil light, passenger tray handle fell off.

7k - refilled oil, throttle pedal fell off.

10k - parking brake failed, rolled into car after leaving overnight??

17k - first service. rear brake cylinder siezed

20k parking brake failed again after 20 mins, rolled into wall

ps

its back in the dealers today for more work!!!
