build quality sucks.

I had all that with a new *hitroen I bought. It really really hacks you off after a while, so much so that I gave it back to the finance co after 18 months of hell, poor service, and the same faults being repeatedly "fixed".

No such troubles with the Fabia though. I have done 7k in a month and a half, all pointless and hard on the car. Only faults are rattling gearlever, noisy rear headrests, turbo whine (having new turbo today) and a so far untraceable (by me) dash rattle. Compared to my previous car nightmares, I don't see them as big issues and the dealer is excellent so i'm sure all will be put right.

Like someone else has said, the car is made up of thousands of components of all shapes and sizes. It is mass produced to a price, and we have all got very good cars for the price. If it was 16k, it would still be good value in my mind.

I recently drove a bmw 120d se, fully specced up demonstrator priced at 21k!! It didn't feel 9.5k better, it didn't drive 9.5 k better, and it didnt perform 9.5k better and it certainly didnt feel any better made.

Clearly that view wont be shared with those of you having bad fortune. I sympathise with you all, like I say, I ve been there.

like shifty I've also owned french cars. after 1 year and 24k on the pug 206 I called it a day as I was sick to the back teeth of it, so I know how you must be feeling.

Ever month it was in the garage for one problem or another, in the end dispite requesting they take the car off me I P/X it in against the fabia.

Yeah ok so maybe it has a slight rattle here and there. It had the rear brake noises which went in time, ok so it have the fuel pump replace under the safety recall. But in all honesty it's beed a great car, I'd advise anyone to buy one, on the other hand I would tell anyone to be a peugeot/citroen.

Oh only thing that I feel let down by is the main head light bulb has just blown, atleast it gives me an excuse to upgrade the lights now heehee

I can highly recommend halfrauds own "super brilliance" 50% brighter for dipped, and rally 100w main beam. I find that I now have enough light to drive as fast as the car will go on dark twisty roads, rather than before whereas I couldnt see very far at all.

22.5k, spilt turbo hose to above list!!!

I have 2 rattles which *seem* to come from the far right and left air-vents on the dash... just can't seem to find whos doing it!

This was the same on mine on the right and it turned out to be the storage thing unser the righthand drivers air vent. Havent found a cure yet :thumbdwn: (apart from wacking it every so often) but at least i have found it!

All of these moaning are worrying me now. I'm looking at changing my 172 Cup (which has never had a single problem) for a Fabia VRS. You lot sound like the guys on Cliosport moaning about their 182's

lol

All cars have their problems, and you tend to hear about them on sites like this :D My Fabia was not fault free, but it didn't live up to the reputation that I'd heard about but other people have not have any problems..... mine was 3 years old and highish mileage though which might be a factor....... :D

Don't worry; these appear the minority.

Done 15000 miles in 9 months in mine; only real fault's been the brake light switch.

Problems so far up to 21k on my VRS

...

10k - parking brake failed, rolled into car after leaving overnight??

...

20k parking brake failed again after 20 mins, rolled into wall

Problems so far up to 21k on my VRS

after 500 miles - turbo siezed

after 1000 miles - engine management light plus air hose split

after 1500 miles - low oil light, passenger tray handle fell off.

7k - refilled oil, throttle pedal fell off.

10k - parking brake failed, rolled into car after leaving overnight??

17k - first service. rear brake cylinder siezed

20k parking brake failed again after 20 mins, rolled into wall

Hmmm.We have had a fabia classic.Three years of motoring and one fuse went.Wow

18 months in my octavia vRS.No problems.

One year in Jane's Fabia vRS.No problems.

Stepfather,two years in a Superb.No problems.

Stepfathers new Octavia Elegance, guess what,no problems.

Feel sorry for those that have a gripe but suggest it would be best to bite the bullet and get something else.Try a nice pug 406 ;)

For the forseeable future I and my family will continue to buy cars that are well built, very reliable, solid, good looking and better than most of the competition.

If I win the lottery though I'm having an Audi RS4 :D

If you are worried about faults, just look at the numbers who HAVE, compared to those who have NOT, you 'll find it is a VERY small number.

I've not had a single problem in a year apart from the battery going dead and that was my fault!

Don't be put off, all the problems end up here because it is focused on helping people with the faults or niggles when they do appear. If eveyone sent a message everyday saying how much they love their cars and how well it's running the problems would be a very small percentage overall i'm sure.

My fabia has never let me down once! *touchwood*

The only things that have broke are bits that I've broke :o or have been broken by stones

It had the fuel pump recall done by one of the best techs out there when it was in for a service.

Other than that it's been sweet.

I dont rate either Peugeot or citroens build quality, but as above others do.

You will always get the odd one or to that are bad.

I just dont understand why some cars have no faults and some are plauged with them? it's almost like they do a quality control and put all the slightly suspect looking parts into one car (mine I think)!

You might say that a lot of it is down to how the car is looked after, but i've always been into cars and look after mine far better than your average joe!

I was chatting with a gentleman who claims to have a lot of money invested with Skoda (dont know how? shares possibly?) and he suggested that although many of the parts in a Skoda look identical to other VAG group parts they are made to a cheaper budget?? how true this is I dont know but it would explain how they can sell cars cheaper than the rest of the VAG group. certainly czech labour is no longer any cheaper than german labour so they arent saving it there!!

My 2001 1.9 tdi is silent , no rattles or loose bits. Are the cars all made in the same factory???

need to agree, as gayles fabia has had more than its fair share of problems :(

mine seems fine now except when you close the right rear door the light cluster rattles

Snap... also had it back to the dealer for the rear panel on the boot. all cool now think it is very well made. I notice the difference when I get in our new shape mondeo

Our Felicia and Fabia have been faultless.

The Octavia has suffered from a knocking front suspension and front brake discs that keep warping.

These issues still haven't been sorted. I'm changing the anti-roll bar links today. Failing that I'm ging to let another dealer look at it.

Cheers

Lee

So do I - it's leaps and bounds ahead of the Fabia in terms of quality of fit and finish, refinement, reliability and comfort ;)

so you had that light rattle fixed ???

Got the rear seat rattle (will try the stops Ross) and the driver's seat squeek (but thought I'd have to live with it until I read this thread).

Slightly more worryingly I get a whistle from under the bonnet when the car is left to tick over, regardless of whether it's hot or cold. A sharp blip of the throttle and it disappears. I am guessing it has to do with the turbo and I'm not sure if this is normal or not, any thoughts ? Car performs fine.
