possible turbo failure

Featured Replies

Hey guys was bout half a mile from from home when the power in my vrs just went and all I could hear was a loud whistling. Im assuming it's the turbo failing... this is the original turbo and has covered 135k. So is it worth a repair or a replacement assuming it is turbo failure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Checked the boost pipes?

No I haven't tbh I would know where to look

Look under the offside front bumper, there is a small gap in the plastic. The bottom boost pipe is under here and is the common cause of hoses popping off.

If not, lift the plastic engine cover and check the top one at the back.

Ok thank you very much would be nice if it just a pipe but im never quite that lucky lol

Sounds to me like a boost pipe has come of as above, check the pipe that runs alongside the coolant tank down to the intercooler also

**** didnt read the rest of that post already been said my bad :)

Would it cause the car too sound like its screaming

Depends...! If it's a whistling its normally just that. A turbo failure will sound like a siren.

Its loud I know that much.... I'll check the pipes when home n hope it's a pipe if not a new turbo it will be.

Checked the top pipe can't quite see the bottom one but top one seems ok

Normally a boost pipe will screech if its a tiny leak. In which case you'd not notice much loss in power. If a pipe has come off totally then I'll make a wooshing noise which would result in loss of power.

High pitch whistling/screeching & loss of power = turbo broken normally.
