See if anyone can help me out here? wiring

Gonna try to describe my little wiring mis-match... :o

Off the engine harness (pd130) there is a 20 pin connector with 6 wires going into it. The plug has a top and bottom row of 10 with I think 2,4,6,8,10... on one side, and 1,3,5,7,9... etc on the other side. There's 6 wires going into this plug, varying colours.

On the PD100 link to the ECU that its designed to fit into has the same style of plug with similar numbers on both sides, but its a different shape and the 6 wires going into THAT plug are different colours and slightly different pattern of pins used as well....

So, its that classic question then... All would be well if I knew what each colour on each loom did as I could join them up safely then. All the rest of the loom matches up perfectly to the plugs, its just this one bugger thats being a right bar-steward. :thumbdwn:

I can supply photos and what exact wires go into what number on each connector, if that helps?

Can you trace the destination of each wire on both the PD100 and PD130 motors and connect up from there. The wires on both engine looms are different colours, but must go to the equivalent destinations on both engines. It will take time, but it's the way I'd try and go.

Hope that makes some kind of sense.

P.S. I've sent you P.M.

Tracing isn't really an option I'm afraid - all wires just disappear into wrapping. :( I'm looking into another vRS loom, but thats gonna be a) expensive and B) a lot of labour time. :(

I got your PM, sorry, but I can't think about that at the moment. Too much on my plate at the moment. :o

I understand that the wires disappear into the plastic wrap, but they must emerge again at the sensor end of things. Obviously with the PD130 in situ the task won't be too easy, but it sounds like your options are narrowing down. On my VRS the plastic sheath doesn't always go right to the connector, so the wire colours are visible. Good luck

I'm afraid it's not the picture you want but you need the following page IIRC. Try a call to your dealer and ask them.

Which car is that for, Stu? Hard to make out. I'll ask the dealer later on if such exists. :)

It's from a VRS.

My dealer was kind enough to let me go and sit and look through the books when I researched Cruise Control.

They had several folders of diagrams, it will be one of the nearby pages.

Don't you know anyone in the Milton Keynes area that could have a quick look for you?

I've checked with our German-speaker in the office and none of the wiring schematics in the German manual are for the ECU.

Not sure its actually ECU wiring - Its one of the smaller wires off the main wrap of cables which comes from one of the ECU plugs - the top smaller one IIRC. I guess these wires off the engine harness probably send messages back like oil level or other sensors like temperature which reside on the block itself.

If I could just know which colour wires off the harness did what, and then relate that to the PD100 equivalent, then job's a good'un. It resolves (I think) all wiring loom compatability issues.

Are the 6 wires on both plugs the same colours
