which turbo

Featured Replies

Right now I've established that my turbo has died what do I replace it with? The kkk turbo or a garret turbo?... and also my fabia is on a stage one revo map will changing the turbo effect the map.? Probably seems like 2 stupid questions but im not very clued up on actual mechanics of cars.

If it was me I'd go for the Garrett, changing the turbo will not effect the remap.

I just got a garret pd160 turbo from darkside along with a braided oil return pipe and gaskets.

Still running the turbo in but already feels good.

The pd160 turbo is suppose to be less laggy than the pd150.

I am also on a "stage one" map, seeing as the pd160 turbo is designed to run at 160bhp I would imagine it is hardly under any strain.

How much did that cost you? does it bolt straight in?

Its was £650 for the turbo and £40 for the pipe (exc vat)

I't does just bolt straight on, didn't fit it myself tho.

What sort of power can a pd160 handle?

You could expect around 190-200bhp :)

Still running the turbo in...

There is absolutely no need for this 'mythical' procedure assuming the turbo has been correctly assembled from very high precision components.

Got a garrett turbo on the way from a very nice gentleman on here.

You can buy generic maps which run them at 208bhp, but I wouldn't want to strain it that much after blowing ip my original turbo.

This is simply what I was told to do.

200bhp would be a nice figure then, are you having it mapped to suit the new turbo?

My hybrid is being fitted next week! They are mapping it for me, it will be done via logs and 3rd gear pulls etc. I'm guessing from that I shouldn't need to take it to easy on the drive home from the garage :)

With 200+ bhp do cv's give up he ghost? Drive shafts sheer? Or is thr torque not quite enough?

My mechanic said he could tweek the map to get it to 200bhp for a small cost. I probably won't tho, as I would need to get a fmic (£600) and new clutch and smf (£600) plus fitting!

Have you though about making your own FMIC kit? Think mine owes me about £300. My map will be tweaked for the turbo, and mapped to suit standard clutch for now. I will buy a Helix in a month or 2, it's just the horrible thought of spending that kind of money on a clutch lol

Yes I was pricing one up yesterday it came to about £300, I think I would rather save up for the darkside kit tbh, looks like a good bit of kit. As for clutches the cg motorsport ones look extremely good value for money.

Back to Alloy turbos. How much should a used PD130 or PD150 Garret turbo cost compared to a recon?
