Sudden loss of power

Featured Replies

Hello,

Today driving home on a dual carriageway the lights went red, so obviously stopped, then set off.. With enthusiasm up to about 70 as was catching traffic then all of a sudden I had no power, was literally like some had halved my power, limped it to a side street to inspect, couldn't see anything obvious revved theeengine to see if it sounded different and it sounded normal apart from no turbo whistle. I thought the turbo had gone did a few searches but couldn't find anything the same, there's similar stuff but unsure.

There wasn't a bang, no smoke. Turned engine back on and all seems normal again? Boosts fine although it does seem to whistle a little more now?

Any ideas what it could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Sounds like car went into limp mode for some reason.

I was near/ on the red line about to do a gear change, also forgot to add its been remapped if that might change things?

Possibly got too hot and decided it didn't want to work?

Might be worth getting someone to scan it with VCDS, see if any codes came up.

Didn't think of that as theres no lights but its brought something up:

charge pressure control:

positive deviation: p1557

Static - no indication

So unsure what that could be lol

Used my head an googled it lol.

17965/P1557/005463 - Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation
Possible Symptoms
Reduced power output
Limp mode

Possible Causes
Boost Pressure too High
Hoses/Pipes incorrect connected, disconnected, blocked or leaking
Charger Pressure Control defective
VNT (variable nozzle turbo): nozzles stuck
Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75) defective

Possible Solutions
Check Hoses/Pipes to/between Components
Check Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75)
Check / Clean / Replace Charge Pressure Control
Check / Clean mechanism for variable nozzles

Obivosuly the above is the issue but anyone no from my description which it could be as it still boosts?

Thanks

My guess is heat soak from driving hard or sticky turbo veins causing irregular boost.

Sure someone with more knowledge will be here to diagnose properly for you :)

If I were you I would:

Check Hoses/Pipes to/between Components
Check Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75)
Check / Clean / Replace Charge Pressure Control
Check / Clean mechanism for variable nozzles

Additionally the remap may be causing the overboost condition.

I've had the map for a month I'd say, but that's the hardest I have driven it I'd say.

Don't want to sound like a idiot but what are they and how would I do that, it's my first diesel and turbo car so still learning haha

If I were you I'd take it back to the mapper and tell him it's overboosting and you're not happy, that way someone else will do the work for you for nothing!

Edit: Since this is your first turbodiesel you probably don't know that the redline is the point at which your engine may go BOOM! and that you fell off the power curve quite a few RPM earlier, don't do it, it's not necessary and it's definitely slower, change gear earlier so you drop it right into peak torque, that way is faster and the engine won't go BOOM! Shortshift FTW.

Sticky egr valve can cause loss of boost, try removing egr valve clean put it back on

Well after the map it pulls well to the line so I guess I best stop that haha.. :/

Yeah thats a good call tbh so take it back and tell him to have a look at it?

I think I'll do that first before trying to tackle anything myself!
