Slick 50

Featured Replies

Anyone used Slick 50 in their vRS. I put it in my Megane II 1.9 dCi 120 and it made it a lot quiter when cold

Skoda strongly advise not using any aditives.

I wouldnt in a PD either. The PD oil is designed for the engine specifically, to add anyting changes the specification of the oil.

I chucked a LOT of millers additive in before I realised :o about 10k miles, can ran sh@t for about a week and I kept having to put more diesel in the tank to dillute it.

My dealer told me not to stick any in as it could harm the engine.

made the engin run ALOT smoother on my 1.4 so maybe its only good for petrols used it twice now :)

...come to think of it needs topping up

Says on the box that it is suitable for ALL diesel engines. No problem in my present car

Yes but the people who make your engine say dont use it.

If it knackers up your injectors due to poor lubrication are they going to pay for the damage, I doubt Skoda would.

Slick 50

Please dont do it, maybe this will help.

A WORD OF CAUTION ON ADDITIVES!

This is the transcript of an AA article published in Motor May 10th 1986.

The widely-advertised oil additive Slick 50 has been soundly slammed by the AA

Mate of mine trashed his engine with an additive - had get a reconditioned one, as the additive basically gummed up the cylinders and it was that or a rebore! It wasn't Slick 50, but some other stuff supposedly imprted from the States. I think it was called 'Snake Oil' or something? ;):D

Funny enough I saw this in halfrauds last weekend and "toyed" with the idea of using it. Basically I didn't buy it as it was expensive, I'm glad I didn't now.

I was only tempted as my engine is tuned so I want to protect it the best that I can to insure it lasts.

The best way to protect your engine for what ever reason is to use the best quality oil possible.

They have all the addatives needed.

Cheers

I didnt add it for protection. I added it to cut down the 'clatter' when cold. This it did and without any apparant side effects. Performance was identical BUT was much quieter until the engine warmed up.

Not being funny, but I think that the technology of engine lubricants, and indeed engines may have moved on significantly in 19 years

Perhaps a more recent test may be more informative.

That being so, there is even less reason to use Slick or similar additives. And, as Lummox has indicated, the PD engine's injectors must have the correct lubricant, ie a 505 01 (fixed service intervals) or 506 01 (variable service intervals) oil.

Have to agree with everyone on oil additives why prevent the oil doing what it should be doing. But i have used fuel additives and they have helped when used.

Couldnt agree more.
