I had a range of 35 miles when I left work tonight, stopped wr first set of traffic lights under 0.25 miles from work, and turned on car headlights.

Fuel gauge needle suddenly went up so fuel light want off and range increased to 140 miles but within next half mile fuel gauge dropped to previous level and fuel light came back on with a range of 50 miles. Filled up within in next 3 miles and car took just over 50 litres to fill up.

Any idea of what may of caused the above ?

I would guess at a faulty level sensor in the fuel tank

Strange thing is that I must of stopped at these lights at a least 100 times since having the car and only tonight did the fuel guage rise

Would VAGCOM record any issues with the fuel level sensor ?
