Hi guys just wondering what a mufflerectomy is?

Was out the other night when I came across a seat leon cupra tdi and it made like a whooshing noise every time the car changed gear and when asked the guy said it's had a mufflerectomy.

What is it

It's when you have the silencer in your exhaust removed and replaced with a straight through pipe.

It's when you have the backbox chopped off and replaced with a straight pipe. Normally get the whooshing noise when you decat it as well.

If I was to de cat the car does it affect power?

maybe gain 2-3 bhp If that lol, they don't do much on diesels as there not restrictive anyways.

Is there any point doing this with a standard exhaust? Would you still get the whooshing noise

I only ever got the whooshing noise with a mufflerectomy. Didn't get it with a straight through pipe or a decat with silencer. Mufflerectomy is a nice mod, gives a very subtle noise when on load

I wouldn't call mine subtle Dan haha as soon as it hits 3k it's like the car is roaring lol !

Haha I suppose mine was quite loud, I'd call it subtle compared to my old Fiesta which was like 112db :P

If you want to. You coup have the cat cut out of the standard down pipe or you could go for a piper down pipe which would include a sleeve to fit it to the standard exhaust

i did this 2 my standard fabia 2 weekago, asked local exhaust garage to remove backbox and replace with a 2.5 inch thick pipe and decat! get the woosh between gears, andddddddd i love it!
