Sparks at high speed?????

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, I was on a very long private road late last night and doing a very high speed. When I backed off before I started to brake at the end, I noticed in my mirror that "sparks" were wafting around the back window. (just fitted my briskoda.net sticker to the very same this morning  ) . The car is standard apart from a remap, so the output of soot at such speeds is very high. Could it be that the heat in the exhaust was so much that the soot particles were igniting? Or is there a more sinister reason? There is nothing hanging off the car or anything like that. The track was quite long, so the speed was sustained for quite a few mins.

Yep thats what it is, carbon burning up. There have been a few people asking the same thing and my old car used to do it also.

Interesting - didnt think it would ignite again :) Obviously I was wrong :P

:D

Coal is carbon and burns quite well.

I still think there is something wrong with the cars that emit soot. When Clarkson was takin' the vRS around the track there was no soot coming out at all.

He wasnt trying ;)

When I first took mine out there was no soot. It's only after 7k of hard driving and a remap that it soots. My friends standard one sooted after about 3k. They ALL soot to some extent.

Don't get me started on clarkson in the fabia

I like the bloke, but he really wasn't trying. He doesn't like anything skoda, diesel or small hatchback, so he had made his mind up it was **** before he even drove it.

As for the mini having better brakes? He obviously didn't press hard enough.

P.S. Thanks for the answer Lummox.

I might just pm you in future :)

Yeah he was, he was racing a Mini.

But that's besides the point. The point is, soot should not come out of a car's pipe. It just means there is a lot of unburnt fuel workin' around and that ain't good for no car if I remember correctly.

Thought he concluded that it was a great little car for the money? You Fabia drivers, you're never happy :P:rofl:

Actually, i think you'll find that Clarkson was very complimentary about the Fabia VRS. When i was doing some research prior to getting mine i found a Sunday newspaper review (telegraph i think) on the web. He loved it, referered to it as "astonishingly fast", as was fairly glowing about it. only thing he grumbled about was the dashboard being dull.

Did I watch a different Top Gear? I thought Clarkson seemed pretty impressed with it.

Yes he was and so was the little guy who Miss Piggy thought is cute.
