2002 Fabia Help/ Advice required Please

Featured Replies

Good Afternoon all,

Where to start :wall:  Please be prepared to be 'bored stupid'

I as you will see now live in Madeira. In 2010 some ex-pats that were returning to the UK offered me a December 2002 Fabia 1.2MPi in what can only be described as in almost brand new condition in every respect. 81,000 Kms near full main dealer history. 6 months prior to me buying it they had managed to blow up the engine, so off to the main dealer it went. Well 2 weeks later a factory recon engine and various other things carried out a huge list of parts and labour on the invoice and.....€4000,00!!!  later the car was absolutely flawless.

I am ow unable to drive due to health reasons, so this nice and shiny car was parked in my garage where it stayed untouched for almost 18 months. After recharging the battery (off the car) started first time no problems at all. Off for the Portuguese IPO (MOT) absolutely flew through no advisories at all.

I then made the mistake of lending it to a member of family (Portuguese) as they were 'down on their uppers' and needed some help.

well to cut an even longer story/farce short 18 months and 20,000Kms later the car has been damaged (perfect genuine wheel trims all badly scuffed wing mirror grazed front bumper on one side as well as being reversed into a BMW, my car looks like it was repaired by Stevie wonder although, at least the colour matches :wall: ) I have lost the plot and had the car returned.

I now have the following issues that the car was returned with to sort out. I am fairly sure I can get a local garage to sort most of the problems out although if possible I would like to source the parts myself (bare in mind it's LHD) and would be looking for secondhand parts where possible. I am in no way technical or have the tools etc

Head Lining the head lining has almost completely detached from the moulding due to the extreme heat here and is currently attached with drawing pins all over

Drivers side electric window switch has been broken (window works fine but the button makes it very hit and miss to operate) Its the switch pack with the lock and unlock button and passenger side window button and they all work fine)

Passenger side electric window is currently inoperative it appears that the button on has been disconnected and the glass has had cardboard jammed in to keep it closed although, I accidently pressed the window switch on the drivers side and it seemed to move the motor before I stopped. so not sure what to do about that.......

Speaker system factory (I would think) upgraded 8 speaker system...that now sounds as if the woofers have blown with to much bass/volume I should add at this point that they cut 6x9 holes in the perfect parcel shelf   although the 6x9's are still fitted all though, they do not seem to work. The head unit is a dealer upgraded high spec Blaupunkt CD tuner .......so I do not know what to do about that problem......

I guess I am looking if possible for someone or company (trustworthy) who has some parts and send them out here for me

If the prices are right I would like to start with Drivers side electric window switch, Parcel Shelf, Genuine wheel trims and possibly some other parts depending on any advice I get from  the members here.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice

Sorry I completely forgot. Can someone please tell me if the clear plastic headlights can just have the clear outer cover changed or if its a sealed unit as due to heat they have started to craze/ go yellow.

Thanks once again in advance

Well have just tried for about the last 15 minutes and whilst they smell nice ! I can't see a vast amount of difference I will get normal white toothpaste and see if that makes any difference. thanks for your help

The window thing sounds like the common electric window fault where the metal cable that lifts it, snaps.

There are various guides on the forum on how to repair this yourself however it is fairly fiddly and you need to drill rivets out and disconnect the world's most annoying plug from the most delicate socket on the lock mechanism.

Ahh OK thanks ever so much for your help when I inadvertently pressed the passenger electric window switch on the drivers side it did start to go down although the cardboard that is jammed in stopped it (closed) if that makes any difference, or is it just lifting it that is the problem?) I will have a look for the guides. Do you have any idea of the part number of the metal cable please (long shot!) I could not do the work due to no tools and ill health, if I can source the part I can print off how to do it and get someone to do the work thanks again. Please excuse my stupid question  ....just re-read your comment...and spot my stupid mistake...it's the cable that lifts it I am guessing that's why it started to go down when I pressed the down button... :wall: what a plank I am

Hi I have looked however, cannot find one is there any guide to removing the moulded headlining please ? as it needs to be replaced and have no idea if it's glued or if the new replacement will need gluing in place

Thanks in advance
