Removing a towbar

I'm thinking of changing my car.   When I got it the local dealer fitted a Westfalia detachable  towbar  it cost me £940 fitted.

I want to salvage some of this cost.

My question is how easy would it be to get the dealer to remove it and what could I expect selling it on. Also what does a spare wheel and tools go for second hand.

I guess the dealer would charge the labour rate + VAT for removal as for second hand prices, I wouldn't think you recover even half of what you paid for it.

You would struggle to get over £200 for a second bar given the price of them new now.

Im gobsmacked you paid nearly 1k for it in the first place.

It just wouldn't be economic to remove the complete installation and recode the car.

Plus, when they fitted the bar they removed the internal metal strengthener inside the rear bumper and replaced it with the tow bar, so you would have to get another one of those.

 

If you take the spare out do you have the moulding to put back?

Still got all the bits, I bought the spare wheel as a kit.

Personally I would leave the tow bar and stick the spare wheel and kit on here (but you'll have to pay for Freedom membership first) or Ebay

I'm going to have a stab in the dark here.

 

I dont think you'll have to get it coded back. There was a fair amount of discussion why they are not just coded for tow wiring from the factory and then all you'd need to do is install the module when you fit the tow bar. The coding just means you need to go to the dealer to get the tow bar fitted.

Agreed.

There is nothing in the coding that will affect "solo" running, but it might be worth noting somewhere that the car has been coded.

Spoke to the dealer who fitted the tow bar and they quoted £150 to remove the tow bar and refit it into another car. Not bad if I get another Yeti.

That seems a fair price, if it includes the recoding of the new car.
