1.9D Starting Problems

Featured Replies

I have a variety of starting problems with my 1.9D Felicia which are puzzling me:

It won't start when warm if the coolant temperature sensor is connected - this is a common problem from what I have read and I have replaced the green sensor with a new one, no improvement.

It sometimes turns over very slowly and won't start, as if it had a flat battery - the battery is fully charged and has been tested as fine.

Quite often, if I turn the engine off for short periods of time (example - when signing in at the security office at work before going through the barriers - about 2 minutes) it won't start - even though the temperature sensor is disconnected.

It sometimes just won't start from cold, in a similar way to when hot, turns over at a normal speed but won't fire.

Pretty confused and annoyed now! :)  Worth noting that when running it seems to be fine and isn't using excessive amounts of fuel or anything (56MPG!).  The fuel filter is brand new but these problems existed before I replaced it.

Check the battery terminal connections, the starter terminals, and the condition of the earth braids next.

This sounds a lot like a starter or earth problem, and those checks are all free and fairly easy.
