Fabia vRS trouble after 2 days of ownership

Featured Replies

I was driving to work on friday morning, about 14 miles into my journey and i was accelerating away from a roundabout, i got into 4th and the car was underload boosting and the next thing... a small pop and the engine completly cut off.

I managed to roll to safety at the side of the road and i waited 4 hours for my mate to come and get it on his truck.

I had only owned the car 2 days so I rang the used car dealer i purchased it from. (It came with 6 months parts and labour warrenty)

Initally i thought it was a blown boost pipe as it had been making strange noises when cruising around which sounded to me like a boost leak, i booked it into a garage and i was waiting for them to get the part in stock.

They have rang me today saying that the turbo has collasped. they have ordered new pipes and a new turbo.

I asked if the turbo they have got me is a genuine skoda part and they said no but it is to the manafactures spec.

should i be worried that the turbo isnt genuine? He assured me it isnt an ebay jobby and its a quality part.

thanks

If its an oem part itll be a kkk turbo. . Skoda dont make there own turbos.

but standard vrs' have kkk's which are known for been pants.

It won't be a skoda branded one but probably made by the same company that make them for skoda.

As far as i know only ones that are available are either the borg warner kkk one or the garrett one. Garrett have a better reputation for quality but most of the kkk ones all seemed to go at the same time when everyone had covered 90,000 to 100,000 miles.

You don't really get noises from a boost leak that you can hear, so you were probably hearing the initial death screams from the turbo blades/shaft before it finally gave up the ghost.

Thanks for the speedy responses, the noises were kinda squeeky and the car is on 99k which would make sense.

This has kind of eased my mind now.

Thanks :)

Sounds like previous owner was aware of the issue and didn't say anything??  Could have had the turbo noises investigated, diagnosed a wobbly/loose turbo shaft, and just decided to get rid of the car....

That would make sense, i wasnt going to purchase the car without the warrenty.
