vRS 80k service, cam belt change due...

Featured Replies

Hi all, my vRS recently hit the 80k mileage which meant it was due a service and cam belt change. I've got it booked in this Saturday as getting time off work during the week was an issue but Im worried the belt may give up on me before then.

Looking through the full service history there doesn't seem to be any mention of the belt being changed at all, which is weird considering its a '06 plate and should've been done 3 years ago according the recommended intervals. I've been driving very carefully lately with this in mind, keeping revs low and sticking to speed limits to try and be careful. Am I just being a hypochondriac?? My mileage at the moment is 80,300, should be at roughly 80,440 by the time it goes off for service.

Wouldn't panic too much, original interval was 80k. Just take it steady until Saturday

It could have been done but the dealer did not tick the box in service book to say they did it, this is the case with the vrs I've just bought, luckily the invoice from the stealers is present which shows cambelt and water pump replacement.

The belt should be changed every 4 years regardless of mileage :)

It's a bit like the 'use-by' dates on food - the food doesn't go instantly toxic at the strike of midnight! In the same way, your cam belt doesn't instantly go bad at 80,001 miles

I know the feeling, though - I found out mine was 7,000 overdue (I did check the service book, but they had revised the timetable after it was printed), felt like I was driving a ticking timebomb! Take it easy, by all means, but unless you're going drag racing I think you'll be fine.
