Another DMF topic and other things

Featured Replies

Ok bought a Fabia VRS on Saturday and it's my first diesel, so a lot of the noises are pretty new to me and basically being anal / paranoid I like to know why thing's are happening and what the noises are.

So it's going into Skoda tomorrow for them to have a listen and a play but in the mean time I've listed a few things I've noticed below, are they normal and if not could they be flywheel related?

  • If i rest my foot on the clutch (barely touching it) there's a vibration, it seems to be with the engine so just want to make sure that's normal
  • When I press the clutch down there's additional noise from the gearbox area (well a lot of noise when the car is cold) doesn't sound rattley to me anyway

Just notes on the above the car doesn't feel juddery in first or second gear and pulls fine.

Other thing I noticed is a bit of seepage on the pipe going to the SMIC from the front left (as you look at it) of the engine not loads but enough to make me notice, is that normal / something I should be worried about?

Mine does all of those things.

Bullet point 1 - The vibration is likely to be caused by the DMF, unless its really noticeable I wouldn't worry. On mine with the clutch all the way to the floor you get no vibration at all, lift it ever so slightly and you feel a tiny amount. It's never worried me and I'm very paranoid too.

Bullet point 2 - I believe to be the release bearing. Mines been like it for 10k and hasn't got any better or worse. Is it when you lift the clutch pedal about half way?

With regards oil around the smic, they all do it. To stop it you will probably want to look at the 'elephant mod' (or a catch can) and new seals for the pipes.

Yeah I get no vibration once I depress the clutch it's just if i lightly touch it before depressing.

The noise on bullet point 2 is with the clutch pedal on the floor.

Cheers for the response as well. I'll still get the local dealer to have a look and see what they say but put my mind at ease a bit.
