Laurin & Klement PD130 Engine Modding ?

Featured Replies

Well for a while now i've been wanting to upgrade to a L&K since they are 130bhp as standard i'am wondering if they are the same as the fabia vrs engine and are as easily mod'able as i would want arround 220bhp, i know it's fairly easy to get it on a fabia vrs just wondering if it would be doable on a L&K

Yep, more or less the same. Front mount intercooler, hybrid turbo and clutch and flywheel to handle the power.

There isn't an off the shelf front mount intercooler though for the Octy tdi.

Exhaust isn't necessary

Not all L&K are 130BHP, they were also available as 110BHP, same as the Elegance.

Make sure the one you look at has a 6 speed gear box as that only came with the 130.

Yeah mate, thanks, i'am well aware of that one, it's was the 6 speed that attracted me to it in the first place and the bhp as standard

yup, i was thinking along them lines but just needed to be sure before going solid on the idea, was gona get a straight through as the wooooosh when pulling away is great, and all them refinements will just add to the pleasure

My brother has the 130bhp Octy elegance estate. He got the miltex turbo back for the Vrs was a straight fit although with every oval exhaust I've seen it went wonky. He gets a good whoosh from 1st to 2nd

I also rate the piper exhaust highly. I don't get the owl/ pigeon noise, but it does sound good.

I made a comparison video of the piper 1 silencer and no silencer system

@ 2:57, why did you use the left lane to go right :D

I wasn't driving :D

i'am not aiming for a particular noise, but when my fiancee like gives it a bit of boost there's a nice wooooosh that comes from the back of the exhaust, I've taken the standard back box off to get something close to the vrs tail pipe so with that it's straight through from cat back, how ever it does make the owl noise as you put it at about 2200

deny all knowledge, i like it (Y)

I wasn't aiming for any particular noise noise either, but after seeing many threads where people were asking about which system to go for I thought I'd get a test together

it's grand though i like it, but it's allways great to get something more than what you expected to get in the first instance, your fabia is a little rocket, thats roughly what i'am aiming for exhaust wise

It is brilliant, quiet enough when cruising and sounds fantastic on boost.

I was thinking about exhausts for my L&K PD130 too! If the system can handle 200hp (as ive been told), its just the exhaust note. Ive never owned a diesel before, but, know from experience that you can change the sound a LOT with the right material and exit shape. The question is, what shape and material makes a diesel sound nice?

I also like the idea of a dump valve, but, ive been told it will lower the power on my engine :(

Also, out of interest. If you get a remap after youve done some mods, how different is it to if you do the mods after the remap? I imagine some things would make a massive difference, lol (IE turbo, etc) but things like exhaust, etc. Does any of it matter to the remap? (Nope, never had a remap before, Just Webber 45s ;) )

My old man had twin Webbers on his MkII and MkIV Cortinas :D EGR delete, decat and straight through back box I think. DV's are **** on diesels.

What about mufflerectomy?

For those that dont know. Its mutalating your rear box for a straight pipe! Oh, er, misses, lol.

This is, obviously, the DUMB way to do it but you get the idea ;)

Suggestions?

how many amps are in a 'bazillion volts' and what fuse number can I piggy back. I have a MkI Fabia :)

@leepatrick01 - My dad had a Yellow and a Green Cortina Estates in his time, the ones with no rear seatbelts ;) He also spent his weekends replacing the dashboards with wood   Yay! Go Dad   We have carbon Fiber now, lmao ;)

@leepatrick01 - 12 Pints, 4 packets of nuts, 4 Swine and a Unicorn! BUT, not in that order ;)

I saw a bloody unicorn only yesterday but my phone/camera/mediadevice/ battery was flat :(

If you change the exhaust and get a larger bore down pipe it can help the turbo spool quicker, but mapping should be saved til after all the supporting mods are done, to get the most out of it.

My current piper exhaust set up has no silencers, so can classify as a mufflerectomy I guess. I have heard some tdis that sound horrific, I guess as you say it comes down to the shape of the pipework. The piper was developed on a Fabia so sounds brilliant

I had a Seat Ibiza 'System Porsche' back in the day (DAM! Yes, I am that old!). I also had and have a friend with an exhaust shop. He messed around with the Ibize, Stainless and Steel! The difference in sound was MASSIVE!!! Way more than exit-pipe shape, The steel sounded like my subs, whereas the steel sounded, well, crisp. I hope you get that! Never heard either on a diesel but thats my experience with a petrol.

My aim is ANYTHING that improves the engine performance, as long as it costs less than a replacement engine ;) Id also like a different note but more deep than raspy, if you know what I mean?

There should be a guy that has a load of engines rigged up to different exhausts and plays tunes on them, lol

The piper 1 silencer was nice and deep sounding. It's a shame your not closer. I'd take you for a spin

Post a vid?

My thoughts about the pikey mod are that you could just as easily mod it to fit the current center bit! NO need for the grinder (Or the battery protector??? WTF, Just unplug the dam battery, lmfao!) ! But, give a pikey a tool and hell use it ;)

Anyway, what is better on a diesel? Bigger front end or bigger back end? Im not looking to go much above 250bhp so do I need to go too mad on the exhaust for performance or sound? Also need it to pass the MOT, ish. How do both mods effect the emissions?
