Removing alloy wheel centre caps without remving wheel?

Featured Replies

I want to replace my centre caps on my alloys. I don't want to trash the other ones, e.g drill and use a puller.

Any way of removing without taking the wheel off please anyone?

Thanks

I've always done them with the wheels off. The only way I can think of is to perhaps use a sucker to get them out, but they're pretty firmly fixed in, with the plastic clips.

You could try a small flat blade driver, perhaps with the edge wrapped in tape to save the edge of the centre cap, and more importantly the wheel finish, around the centre cap.

As Wardy as said  above.

isn't there a tuppence ha'penny removal tool for the job

I drilled a small pilot hole and then put a self tapping screw in and pulled out the centre cap with pliers. Its very easy :)

I am thinking I might do a similar or use the pully that comes with plastic wheel nut remover. Thanks

Yes there is. In my car, there's a slot for it in the foam insert inside the spare wheel - the insert also contains the jack, wheel brace, locking nut key, towing eye and, in my case, the detachable towbar. It looks like a wire loop with an angled wire sticking out from it. Just insert the angled bit into the slot hole in the plastic cap, turn 1/4 turn and give a sharp pull - easy and no damage done.
