Featured Replies

That could be epic.

Sounds fun

The suzuki engine sounds much more fun than the ford lump

Lump from a Triumph Rocket would be better though.

I like the concept Asspman, but I fear it wouldn't be the best.

Bags of torque but the way the power is delivered doesn't lend itself to the way you'd drive the Cateram.

Maybe it could be tweaked?

The 1050 from a speed triple might work better.

Whack on a turbo too. Thinking along the lines of the Megabusa etc.

They are building a 'Dealership Euro 5 car to sell into the time of the new Euro 6 Emissions, and to sell at a low price.

There are so many engines they could have fitted and probably some buyers might go onto, once they buy a Seven 160/165.

Motor Cycle engine Euro 4 & Euro 5 emission dates, regs ect for manufacturers are different from passenger car engines legislation dates. Testing , periods of use and expiry for using, ie up to 2020.

Its a Turn Key , Type Approved 2013 car they are going to be selling and if they went for that engine over the 1.0 Ecoboost, there is surely a good reason like

Global Sales, cost,& maybe Race Series that this engine will suit.

The chassis might be perfect as designed and sold for some hybrid or Electric motors without much adaptation.

Oh yeah!

Having had the same engine in a Tiger, that would be a stocking car.:giggle:

I get what you're saying George, and I'm sure title be a great car, but there's no substitute for a high POWER to weight ratio :)

That is why they sell those already, at slightly and much higher prices.

Choices are a good thing, and affordaility for those without mechanical skills, just a little cash and the wish to buy a new sports car.

'Stack them high and sell lots', and you can get on and develop and sell even more of something else.

This might just be their plans for the future.

I love 7s but that colour scheme....

Sounds fun

the Formula Ford EcoBoost seemed to do alright with it

They have the 1.6 L4 engine (200ps)

These would have been L3 1.0 engines (many less torquages)

The Ford EcoBoost would have been much better, at least if it's like this

no they don't, as per the video above it's the 1.0 I3 and looks/sounds a shed load of fun :)

Watch the video, Chris Harris explains that the FF cars have the L-4, and the above car has the L-3 with a L-4 turbo ;)

Ford might want to do their own version in the near future of a Caterham with their engines,

or were just not up for supplying the engines to Caterham at the cost Caterham wanted to pay..

Hopefully Caterham and their entry level Fun Road and Track car leads the way for others,

Maybe one from come from Dacia (Renault) for £10,000 OTR

Available from a local dealership. or just Mail Order.

Why do VW Audi Group not get their buts in action, they have all the knowledge from their many brands,

they have the 3 Cylinder Engine for the Citigo/Up!/Mii, and surely it will be Turbo Charged soon for the GTI models,

so build a stripped out Fun Car.

I was referring to the car in the video

The logic behind my thinking the Suzuki engine was a better choice is because it is a more conventional engine, been around longer, and readily available

The ecoboost has internal manifolds and other kit, which means it will be harder to work on, more easily written off, and harder to upgrade - basically a more expensive and limiting engine for a kit car

VAG group supply Donkervoort and they are stunning cars.

I've driven a couple and they are great little things. Sublime chassis and love being thrashed. The main reasons for the Suzuki engine in the Caterham:

Suzuki engine has world wide emission capability as mentioned.

It's the equivalent of the xflow in terms of years in use....the basics of that small turbo unit have been around for over a quarter of a century (Suzuki cappuccino etc.)

The racing series in Japan likewise....more than 250hp made on some cars with simple mods...and massively popular.

Suzuki were keen to get a small two seater sports car on their books (to compete with mx5). The caterham offers this is some ways...and in Japan the 160 is sold through Suzuki agents.

The caterham/Lotus 7 brand has a cult following in a Japan and the 160 has already become a massive (successful) seller globally.

Hell, they even sell turnkey 160 caterham/Suzuki cars in Switzerland which is a bugger of a market place to sell/register small two seater sports cars!

Still, would not change my 1995 Caterham 1700 xflow clamshelled Supersprint for anything...but trying to get it registered here in Switzerland is not proving to be easy ;)

Apologies....bit of a thread resurrection there :D

Wouldn't want any cows getting their bells caught in that open suspension ..

I heard a rumour about a rumour about an idea for 'spats' to cover the suspension ..
