Launch Control

Featured Replies

As above, is it worth getting?

i've been tempted to get it fitted now im running 200+ bhp but dunno whether its worth payin the money for something im hardly gunna use.

what you reckon guys?

any got it or got a video?

Hopefully you have already upgraded the clutch?

If not I'd spend some money there first...

Pointless

I heard somewhere that using launch control, your clutch will only take up to about 8 uses of it before you need a new one and that's performance clutches.

Worth it if you're racing... And quite a cool thing to have.

Yeah I had it. Pretty pointless. Also I think it could be a mot fail since they can't do a fast idle smoke test.

gettin a new uprated clutch fitted tuesday by darkside and because ive had all my work done there, they said LC would be about 50/60quid, just wondered if it was worth havin

They'd do that in neutral, not in gear wouldn't they?

thats what i thought

Here's what an expert told you:

Pointless

No-one here is going to tell you it's a good idea no matter how many times you ask!

You're a big boy now, it's your car and your money so you can do whatever you like as long as you're ready to take responsibility for the consequences.

just wanted some advice mate thats all

I can't see my clutch suffering with launch control.  Torque is fairly limited in 1st gear anyway, at least compared to the torque of W.O.T in 3rd or 4th gear at the top end. :)

It's a gimmick, but I would be interested if it can make my fabia get off the line easier / smoother.  I have always been a bit of an amateur at launching it myself, mainly because the clutch is so grabby.

.......they said LC would be about 50/60quid,.............

IMHO Yes, spend the £60.

It's an awful lot of technology for that amount of bread

Oh..... wait, you meant for you car.....

Mine will only rev to 4500 in neutral.

Pseudo launch control, as it came out of the factory

or safety feature? Call it what you will...

But it won't rev further unles the wheels are turning and by some

kind of witchcraft it knows.

But then again mines petrol so doesn't need the crap revved out of it

come MOT time.

The launch control function is always on regardless of gear.

Its a speed based torque limiter.

Different setup will require different setting. Things like tyres for example.

Is it fun? Yes

Is it "better" than not having it? Depends on the driver and what they want.

Think I've only used it a couple of times and that was to see if the changes had worked.

well that's a load of rubbish because I've used it plenty more than that on mine and its is perfectly fine. It is a nice little party trick, specially if your like going down the drag strip or stuff but if not there's no point in buying it.

for 50 - 60 pounds... I'd do it

I doubt a helix would be torn apart after 8 launches with LC? I'm going for a helix anyway :)

next question is, what revs have people had their limited too, im thinking around 2500/2600

Are they charging you just to add in launch control? Or is it being done while your having it mapped?

  • Author

not having it mapped mate, spent nearly £3k at darkside over past 2months, so having clutch done tuesday and asked about LC, they said it would be bout 50/60quid plus VAT since i had it mapped by them recently

They'd do that in neutral, not in gear wouldn't they?

The way it was done on my car was a speed/injection quantity limit, which in turn limits the rpm. Until a set speed is reached like 15mph then it takes its limits from another map.

Meaning its also limited in neutral, unless there's another way of doing it.

Its not a real launch control.

Its sounds pretty cool with a full exhaust but thats it.

That's if you go for the popcorn limiter :) I need to log but I think the popcorn limiter will result in boost going up and down as will the actuator on the turbo. A smooth limiter results in a consistent boost pressure and actuator position.

Mine will be 3000 revs probably due to the lag on my turbo having to be overcome

Mines set at 2.5k
