Recirc or atmospheric? And why?

Featured Replies

Hi I'm running an atmospheric dv on my mk1 octy.. And get a yawning sound when turbo starts to spool but then I let off the go pedal.. I believe these engines run better on a recirc dv.. And wonder if anyone knows if this is the case and why.. Also this yawning noise is irritating so any knowledge or experience of this would be greatly recieved .. Thanks guys happy sunday

I run a forge split R valve which to my knowledge does both and was worth every penny. These engines run better with recirc valves, your everyday bov can lead to problems, there is a thread on here about this topic. From my experience and what I've been told recirc valve all the way, although apparently the standard valve with a CAI makes a good noise. As for the 'yawning' sound I can't offer any help but im sure someone in here will be able to :)

Yeah sounds about right.. Cai? 170 pounds on eBay for your valve.. Would be ideal just bit expensive.. So I take it the recircs on the bay for £40 quid would do the job but without the noise.. Bit chav maybe but I like the noise. Lol. ( I've read the thread on the £40 quid recirc )

Cold air intake = CAI. Yeah they ain't cheap but well worth it and they were made for the 1.8t im not sure about the £40 ones. They might do the job fine, I like the noise aswell and with the valve setup right it sounds great, but gotta sort induction to make it louder :)

Ah of course.. I feel only slightly stupid now.. Thanks for that.. Ill research further

i have the £40 ebay intake pipe with a decent filter on the end of it and a Forge 008 DV coldside kit, and mine chatters/tiiish`s its titties off!  spool up is also very loud.

Good for scaring people too!

They run better on recircs as that's how they are designed to.

The air has passed the maf and if its vented to atmos the ecu sees it as a leak and throws a code .... not always though.

The forge splitter lets a bit of air go and keeps a bit in to keep the ecu happy. Witchcraft I tell you !!!

I have a ebay CAI kit with the ebay £40 recirc valve. Sounds chavvy but i like. I picked my girlfriend up on deansgate in manchester at 9pm, very busy and loud and she heard me boosting and tiishing well before she saw me

I'm with you Dave, so the sound of the fluttering and spool up is heightened by the induction kit?.. I'm just trying to get rid of the atmospheric dv without losing the magical sounds generated.. With oem recirc valve or £40 quid eBay jobbie ill keep those noises but lose the tishhhhh, unless I put up the extra cash for the split version? Thanks guys I appreciate the help

The eml is on.. But was told by previous owner this was due to exhaust sensor.. Not sure on that now but we'll see.

AUQ ecu can adapt fueling by 25%, when BOV is fitted fuel trims are negative because metered air is blown from the system and there`s a surplus of fuel.

Get it scanned to be sure. Could be anything really

Yeah the open filter on a CAI just allows you to hear the dumping, the standard box just hides it.... Simples

So the difference between oem recirc valve and £40 quid eBay jobbie .. Is ? Thnks

Got a link for the ebay one ??

I`ve put an ebay CAI on a month ago, sounds great...but, I have had errors on vagcom which led me to the maf sensor. Cleaned the maf and it ran good again, but this has happened 3 times now.

Granted the filter is a generic one, and I`m thinking this could be the problem? Either that, or the maf is jiggered.

Thinking of changing the filter for a S2000 cone if this will help, anyone else had this issue?

Nothing really....

The OEM one is probably better than a ebay one TBH as the OEM one has been re designed recently with a stiffer spring and they are pretty much leak proof. Ebay jobbie may not be leak proof like the better Forge versions. i recall a comparison test some time back discussing this and some none branded recirv valves leak badly.

Just bought a cheapie off a chap on here, so ill let you kno.. Many thanks for your help

Must admit the seal on my ebay jobbie broke up after a week after undoing it to experiment with springs etc.. I did away with the seal and put an oversized one in the entire top of it. Been perfect since

Hmm.. If so ill buy oem. Just out of interest looking down at engine bay.. Does pipe go into bottom connection of dv first then out of side or tuther way round?

Just bought a splitter BOV off eBay arrived today will be fitting tonight weather permitting. Anyone know how many clicks to set it to so it doesn't put the EML on ?

Cheers Chris.

I know the forge split R valve is 16 clicks on a un mapped engine. If that's any help

Cheers ricRedvrs I set it to 15 from full recirc. and I get a little tissh but now't too chavy. No EML and seems to hold boost longer. It also feels smoother at low speeds, traffic etc. All in all its a improvement over standard, especially as it was only £40 delivered. Good old eBay.
