Anyone running a Seat Sport FMIC & Darkside pipe kit?

Featured Replies

I'm just wondering if anyone if running this kit on a Fabia 1 vRS.

I do on my 06 BLT engined car. The lower boost pipe is right in front of the towing eye making it impossible to use it, I don't think I'd be able to run a TRS tow strap either. I had an early prototype version of their kit. I have already had the top pipe replaced as there wasn't space for the drivers side headlight back cover.

I'm hoping they've revised the kit to allow the tow eye to be inserted.

Anyone? Also when did you buy it?

Joe

You got pics of it fitted etc mate? Im thinking of this exact kit and would like it illustrated :)

I have the same problem mate

does the top pipe have to be replaced by a soft silicon jobbie?

I've got the forge pipework and I'm pretty sure I cant use the towing eye either

Ditto matt1chelski I'm running the Forge setup and I'm in the same boat.

I'm guessing mine is the same, but I haven't really looked. I really should though as you need the towing eye fitted on track days.

I'd be interested to know too

Thats strange as before running the Darkside pipes I had the Forge Seat Sport style FMIC & Forge pipework and I could use the towing eye no problem!

I didn't really like the pipe kit Forge supply with their Seat Sport style FMIC, I  didnt trust it to support the increased boost of the larger turbo. It had blown apart on stage 1, I think the Darkside kit is much more robust - being a 2 piece kit there are less places for the pipes to blow apart.

You can just see where the towing eye should screw in here. The pipe is in the way.

The kit Forge supply with their Seat Sport style FMIC - Don't forget you need to run the OEM plastic top boost pipe (or aftertermarket stainless steel pipe) ASWELL! A bit of a jigsaw isn't it!

I'm running hybrid power on the forge no issues with it coping. No issues with track days either, never been asked to put the towing eye in.

I know at silverstone you need the towing eye in. Not sure about anywhere else

Bedford Autodrome were fairly strict, but I just about got away with it. At the end of the day you have them for your own benefit - so your car can be recovered quickly off the track if need be and without being further damaged.

I live in the sticks with quite a few hills around so I need one for when it snows aswell.

Fair play Joe. I've never looked if I'm honest. I'll have a look when it's dry

5 of us at Bedford, no one asked us once about a towing eye.

I have a darkside kit, bought around 2 months ago and you aren't able to use the towing eye. And I doubt that it would of been revised since then.

Thanks, problem solved!

Different day, different instructors. They specifically asked for them to be fitted in the race briefing when I went to a 'How Fast' event in the summer. I felt a bit naughty as everyone else seemed to fit them!

I was worried as I expected to need it but when I asked Alistair @ Unit 18 (who I was going with) he said none of the previous events had asked for them to be fitted. I guess different organisers have different rules as you say.

I'd like to get mind in and working at some point. There is space for a adapter behind mine I think.

Some trackday organisers are strict on tow eyes, some are not.  The more strict ones say if they cant find one then they'll just hook onto whatever they can find and drag the car off!

My Forge pipework meant I couldnt put the standard tow eye in.  So I bought a spare from someone breaking a car (£6) and chopped the actual eye off and left the threads plus about 40mm of the 'bar'.  I then drilled a hole and in the end and bolted a TRS tow strap to that a la post 43 on here:

I took the TRS strap off after trackdays and kept it in the car as I didnt like the look

The Seat Sport intercooler has been copied & improved by THS aswell as Forge and Darkside.
