Sticker removal

Featured Replies

This question is probably older than me but anyway....

How the hell do you remove the vinyl stickers that dealers put on the rear windscreen, without resorting to a scraper and knackering up the heating elements for the rear windscreen.?

Try a hairdryer first to soften the sticker. If it won't then pull off, use isopropanol acohol (IPA) or similar.

Now there's a good question!

I seem to recall someone saying that the manual states stickers should not be put over the heating elements. If that's the case take it back to the dealer and get them to do it. That way if there is a problem with the heating element it's their fault and they are liable.

That was the first thing I did before I even left the dealer. I hate the dealer sticker in the window. Theres a dealer of Italian cars in Cheshire who like to put one in the back window, and one on the tailgate, and of course in big letters on the numberplate. I'm not going to name them cos i'll probably get sued, but you know who I mean.

My Briskoda.net sticker looks much much better.

The 4X4 came with ginormous factory-applied stickers on top of the heating elements!

PS: I ignored the advice in the Owner's Manual about getting stickers removed by a dealer and did it myself - very slowly and carefully using a modelling knife, cloth and IPA.

WD 40's just as good as owt for removing the glue after you take the sticker off. You have to clean the window afterwards though.

And they're a crap dealer too.... Allegedly ;)

Oh some of the stories I have about them....

I wouldn't like to comment on stickers over heating elements.

For stickers on anything else, then, as already said, the hairdryer jobbie for starters, or if a permanent sticker, you could try lighter fuel that you buy for barbeques.

Dunno if this is the same as IPA, or what WD40 is made up of for that matter, but lighter stuff works for me. Best to remove any paper by soaking with warm water first, so that one is dealing only with the glue residue.

How about just telling the dealer that you don't want the stickers in the first place. They will then either not put them on (if they listened) or remove them before taking ownership of the car (if they didnt).

Did not have any stickers on the rear window, and I've (only just) removed the tax disc holder + AA/Skoda help number stickers. The help number is now in the glove box, just in case, and the Briskoda.Net/vRS tax disc holder is in place.

Annoyingly it fell off so I wedged it in place with some tissue, hopefully it will have had sufficient time to melt onto the windscreen (the glue, that is ;) ) and stay put :D

Cheers guys..looks like I've an evening spent with IPA and a scraper. Flippin dealers !!! argh..I wish they'd stick their number plates on as good as the window stickers !!!

When I've got it off, I might go round to the dealers during the night and stick some all over their showroom window right in the line of sight...wonder if you can get some very large custom ones made?

lol, your number plate too! Mine came off on one side so i went to halfrauds and got some pads for a quick fix, still need to go back to the dealers and get them to do a propper job on it.

When I fitted my own plate I used velcro with a 7kg strength rating, reckon the front bumper will come off before the plate!!!
