best brake fluid and which sequence for bleeding brakes...?

Featured Replies

As title says which brake fluid is favored when doing a full fluid change and which corner is best to start and the sequence after that.. cheers folks

Start the furthest away from the MC and work towards it (ie NSR, OSR, NSF, OSF)

Thanks dude,

just don't get any air in the system or it plays havoc with the abs system and need vagcom or trip to dealers to bleed the abs system I believe?

some one will come along and confirm or deny, but I seem to remember something about this

so to be safe make saw you top up the reservoir as you do each wheel

Was considering doing this myself too as after a good 20 minutes of moderate to heavy braking on country roads the brakes were horrendous, soft and lacking any bite. Was recommended to use an Easy-bleed kit which has a large reservoir that is sealed onto the brake fluid reservoir and pressurised slightly to aid bleeding. Also, I saw halfords do High performance DOT4 fluid which is recommended for cars with ESP... Any thoughts?

the yellow cap on the brake fluid reservoir will give the standard spec (dot 4 etc) main thing is to make sure you meet or exceed that spec

the easybleed kit is ok, I have one, but you have to drop the pressure in the tyre you use for the pressure source, so will need to visit garage or get the pump out to refill after, I also find it difficult to get an airtight seal between the reservoir and easybleed cap

on the mk1 vrs you need to take the top air hose off (from EGR valve to next joint) to get easy access to reservoir

other car may need other methods to get easy access to reservoir

the other thing is to crack each bleed nipple before you start  so you know you don't have any issues and do not over tighten or you will strip the threads and need a new caliper or helicoil fix which will mean car off road

i used this..http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-accessories/engine-oils-and-car-fluids/auxiliary-fluids/brake-fluid/?130339010&0&cc5_179.bleed the full system with the help of my daughter ,this fluid is a blue colour so you know when it reaches the bleed nipple and the old clear fluid turns blue that its all new fluid .i didnt use any easy bleed kits or stuff like that just the old fashioned way and the result is super..

I used Motul RBF600 fluid in my last car. Absolutely brilliant, but you really need to change it every 12 months.
