DAB Radio?

Featured Replies

Hi,

First post to this forum, Citigo ordered in late July and build date scheduled for tomorrow (16th Sept) (SE with Entertainment pack, sunset glass and PID thrown in for free)!

I've read the PDF manual for the PID https://mediaportal.skoda-auto.com/resource/documentation/manuals/en/Citigo/05-2012/Manual/A00_Citigo_OwnersManual.pdf) and it appears to mention DAB radio but doesn't go into any detail.

Can you get DAB radio on the PID? Can I look forward to the glorious sound of Planet Rock on my commute????

Can't see how this is possible as the PID just provides a display for the factory installed HU which does not have DAB. Unless Skoda have changed the HU then I think not ????????????

In the manual for the pid it does mention a dab function..... Perhaps a future upgrade/option?

In the old Navigon unit manual there is no mention of DAB but in the new Garmin unit manual it does say AM, FM and DAB are available.Interesting.

Although would be nice to have dab!

Hope DAB is available with the Garmin unit,am also partial to a bit of Planet Rock.

Absolute radio 80's can be quite good too. Used to have it on in the office

My Elegance has been built and is en route.  It would be nice to have DAB.  I hope to have the car end of next week or early the week after.  I'll post.

Well done John. Looks like THE WAIT is almost over for you...

Please do let us know about the Dab radio once you get to explore the radio and Garmin PID combo...

All the current literature (online) for the radio in the citigo range makes no mention of DAB, it says AM/FM RDS radio. Sorry, even VW do not offer DAB in their "UP" it starts from the Polo or did.

I cannot see how the PID will give DAB at all it is an interface to the vehicles CANBUS with a GPS navigation system built in, unless its internet radio via your mobile phone streaming to the PID? But that is not DAB.

For DAB you need a powered DAB antenna fitted somewhere on or in the car.

Interesting to see what you actually get.

Regards

This confirms it is not a radio receiver! It's purely an interface to the canbus and what is fitted, so if your built in radio is not DAB then you will not receive DAB.

The Garmin manual definitely says you have the choice of AM,FM or DAB on the PID.Just have to wait until someone with the new Garmin unit uses their device.

My car is also on its way to the uk so will also post when I receive mine

Sorry to put a damper on things. I really do not believe that any of you will be able to get DAB radio on the Citigo. The PID device is becoming available on a wider number of models throughout the VW group range and is now currently on the Seat Ibiza as well as the Mii and I'm sure there will be more coming as it's a cheap way of adding a lot of functionality -I think that any mention of DAB in the manual for the PID/ Seat Portable system etc or whatever it's being called -the ability to receive DAB radio is dependant on the head unit -not the PID device. The fact that there is reference to DAB is just a bit of future proofing for something not currently available on the Citigo in the UK at least.

I confess I'm not holding my breath over this.  However there is the possibility that the PID unit could have DAB built in as it does with the media player.

I  have a 63 plate Seat Mii Sport & the new Garmin unit.  I can confirm there is no DAB tuner, just the AM / FM.

However I have been told that if you have a phone with a radio player app on that you can stream that through the Bluetooth connection.  I have successfully played music from my iPhone, but have not tried a radio player app yet.

You can indeed stream on both the old and new PID units -however it is unlikely that anyone will get a robust enough mobile data signal while on the move to make internet radio listenable without it dropping out and caching all the time even on lowest quality, plus anyone thinking of doing it would have to be on a plan with a lot or unlimited data. I've tried it with 'tunein' and it really didn't work very well.

Excerpt from the latest PID Instruction manual. I've highlighted the areas where DAB is mentioned:

I have the latest PID and theres no DAB on it. Its probably only there if the HU can support DAB. Unfortunately its AM/FM for us.

If you read the manual carefully on page 122 section 12 Media, it says:

The integrated multimedia application can be used

? To control the car radio
? To control the CD player in the car radio

In this function It is remote controlling the radio in the car head unit and not receiving radio itself and playing it, so DAB reception is governed by the ability of the factory installed radio to receive DAB. The ONLY radio capability of the PID is FM transmitted TMC data which it gets via the dash dock (connected to the roof aerial) and Bluetooth

Thanks for all the replies, it appears to be confirmed now that there is no DAB as standard. Thanks everyone (clicks browser for Amazon to buy a 32gb card to fill with metal tunes)....

You can drag & drop from iTunes, including Apple bought songs.
