Gave my windscreen the toothpaste treatment at the weekend!

Featured Replies

Since taking delivery of my new Roomster in June the windscreen has just smeared horribly when the wipers went over it.  2 tanks full of screen wash and endless cleaning have made no impact.  Came to the crunch driving in the rain, in the dark...

I've heard all the other ways - vinegar, newspaper - but toothpaste is the best - trust me!!

The old fashioned white toothpaste is the best.  I have a tube of Sainsbury's cheapo range stuff I bought a few years ago for the purpose.  Lift the wipers out of the way.  Give the screen a good wipe over to remove any grit.   Put a couple or 3 5cm worms on the windscreen and rub it in vigorously all over with a damp cloth for a couple of minutes.  When the screen is evenly white give it a good once over with a really wet cloth and then just hose it off.

Drove to work in the rain this morning with low sun reflecting off wet roads.  I could see!

Smells minty fresh throughout the day too!

3m glass cleaner spray is good! Has caustic soda in it I think as it stinks, but it cleans glass very well!

Use a machine polisher to make it even easier!

And if you use Sensodyne it fixes cracks...

Apply some Gtechnik G5 afterwards and it's even better

I'm having issues with my wipers, the rubbers make a noise as they change direction, also a scratching noise, (not marking screen), but driving me crazy!!

Would the toothpaste treatment help me?

Don't know!  I have only ever used it to clear smearing.  Can't do any harm - give it a try!

You can pop by a borrow some gtechniq g4 glass polish if you want. I'd offer some g5 to try too, but I don't have any at the moment. You can try some G3 I have after the polish if you wish.

Cheers

Thanks for the offer! As far as I can see, there is a problem with the o/s wiper, I hope to get it looked at next week!! Hope my trip to Blackpool in the morning is dry!!!

Pour a can of coke over the windscreen next time it is drizzling rain.
Instant clean windows
Mind you,
You will have to wash the car afterwards but well worth it.

I thought G5 was G3........ rebranded

And this toothpaste treatment won't make tiny scratches in the windscreen? I would have thought so (puzzled)

G5 is G3 rebranded. Due to another company called 'G3 Glass Coat'which was a company that made crystaline sealants for cars. They took the hump because Gtechniq called there glass coating 'G3 Glass Coat' so was bumped to G5 as G4 was already taken I guess with the polish. Give the G3 a good shake (just in case anything has settled and off you go.

No...Glass is extremely hard..

The toothpaste cleans rather than removes any microns of glass

Getting my g's mixed up. Meant run out of G1 and I have G3, which yes is now G5

Cheers

Steve

I did wonder..lol
