My car LOVED Combe!

Featured Replies

Had to cut the day short as only could manage 1 track session I knew something wasn't right. Checked fault codes when I got home and found these

16955 brake light switch

16687 Cyl 3 misfire

16688 Cyl 4 misfire

17704 - Coolant temp sensor

Not sure on the misfires (out of every corner) tried vacuum hoses, leaks, plugs, coil packs next I think. Any ideas?

It's now time to start spending some money I think. Pro alloy intercooler must go along with pancake pipe for a toyo sport one and go from there!

Sounds like car needs some refreshing.  The original tuning was done a fair old time ago now.

How to refresh a 370bhp octy vRS I'm afraid I have no clue at all.

Do the coolant sensor first. Could be related to the misfire. You really never know with these engines lol.

Or it could be wiring.

Was it you i was just behind in the 1st session when you had to go straight at 'Bobbies' after a loud bang and black smoke??

Come see me I will sort it dude

Yea that was me mate if I nail it on a straight it's fine if I try and do it coming out of a corner it was just cutting boost and backfiring about 4-5 times it annoyed me that much I just didn't want to go back on! I know it's only small problems but bloody annoying. Clive I would love to come to you mate I know it would be looked after (I tried to find you on Saturday but couldn't find you) problem is your so far away from me I'm looking at £150 fuel before I even get the car looked at. I'm going to be doing some long hours at work the next few months to pay for all this as the car is my only one I also can't afford for it to be off the road. Doh!!!

You wanna swap for a standard one lol

No way!!!! Haha good try buddy. You know what? F**k it! I'm going to start saving some cash, as I'm saving for a wedding as well it's not easy but I'm going to bring it too you mate it needs to be sorted properly just give me a couple months to get some cash together. Need to try and put together a toyo sport fmic as well hopefully I can get second hand and not much difference what I will get for my pro alloy one

before you start spending truck loads confirm the faults you have and see from there as a CTS failure can give all sorts of running issues depending on how it has gone

It can cause over fueling and or under fueling, so back firing and miss firing are common if you are giving it some like on a track.

Ok mate brilliant I will take your advice and change that first, I know to get a green one is one in eBay the same or best to go dealer? Thanks

059919501A this part number?

There's a toyosport FMIC on eBay second hand, for £110

I seen that it looks small and he's chopped all the pipes I would be interested if I knew it was the right one the cooler itself looks tiny :-(

Does anyone know wether this intercooler would be man enough? 321208464977 eBay!

Looks too small too me

Yeah, it looks like the standard front mount on the toyosport FMIC kit. I would bid on the toyosport FMIC and buy a bigger cooler, which is about £70-90. I bid on a toyosport intercooler and decat and won both for £185, so you will find a bargain hopefully :-)

Yea good idea thank you for that buddy :-)

That's NOT the one you want mate!

Put 600x300x76mm fmic into the search bar and loads come up for £78+postage @£9!

More work to fit,but well worth the effort ;-)

Oh thanks mark It's going to be a long and slow process but worth it I think you know what it's like with money haha.

Track use, high demand on fuel pump. My guess is that your in need of a fuel swirl pot my friend - I could be wrong but running the power you are I'm very surprised if this setup doesnt run a secondary pump i.e a bosch 044 in line with swirl pot. I can only think if it boosts strong on the straights with no issues, its not air/volume related its fuel :-/

Go Dealer or TPS,  forget Ebay for those kind of parts TBH.

Ok lads thanks for all the advice it only does it like I said out of a corner (feels like traction control is cutting boost but it's off) and if I try a top speed run if its held on boost in 4th for a long time (on a private road of course) I get too about 140 and it cuts then and spits a massive flame. It's got uprated fuel pump but like you said no swirl pot or anything.

Thank you mate will look into ringing Skoda Friday when I get payed :-)

Try a swirl pot as well, it can only help even if not cure the issue - did you see the Revolution Impreza there? This is the company I work for so just trying to offer sound advice buddy ; ) Very annoying though when we suffer boost issues with these cars - I've had mine two years now and mine really peeing me off regarding boost. Forge' Golf 1.8T build is something else though - gotta love the work that went into that.

I hope you solve the issue bud, I'll be following this thread now

Revolution scooby considering it holds the record at the ring she looked slowish did she have it turned down a bit??

Has it been on any rollers recently? Its retarding by the sound of things - could be the 255 fuel pump just cant keep up with demand and the temps are shooting up causing the knock sensor to do its job. You could try running a water methonal set up on the car - that'll keep engine temps down and reduce knock - Most your high power 1.8T lads run water meth above 300bhp - look into it buddy; its not as expensive as it may seem in the grand scheme of things. Jsut another base to cover?
