Fabia vrs front suspension noise

Featured Replies

Anybody experiencing noise from front suspension? I've noticed on my Fabia vrs (just done 1000 miles) noise apparently from front suspension.

It's a noticeable rattly noise audible at very low speed - walking speed to 15mph on bad surfaces and sometimes a quite loud metallic 'twonk' at any speed which is very intermittent and I can't reproduce - it might only do it once on a journey. Everything appears done up ok - I am suspecting the drop link between the suspension strut and the anti-roll bar. There is some play in the joints in the drop link - obviously by design and hitting it produces the same resonance as the 'twonk' Anyone else come across this? Any info I will pass onto Dealer. (Dealers are usually better at fixing probs if they know what the prob is!)

I have noticed this on mine over the last week or so (4.5k miles).

Get your dealer to check your anti roll bar links, they have been modified to cure the low speed noise.

I have had my drop links and anti roll bar bushes replaced. Although the service manager had not heard of that one before mine ! ? [he is a compleate banker though]

Thanks mate.

Is this a fairly new thing? My car was only built at the end of last year.

Is there a way to tell if they are the new type (PT No or something) I just know they'll rety the fob off.

What age is yours Andy?

I've supposedly had the revised gear linkage on mine although they argued that mine would be correct from factory so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't change it as it's still noisy. SWMBO's was done and is good as gold now.

Vectensian- Many thanks for that - I guessed the problem wasn't unique and that someone would know the answer.

My car is a 2005 [05] with the new model bits including the new dash and traction light etc.......

Your front springs have a manufacturing defect, take it to the dealers quick because it sounds like they're very close to snapping!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kidding! :D

Hi guys. My faby is 08/2003 with almost 19k miles. Few thousand miles b4 I

I've just got back from the dealers. They reported very 'dry' ARB bushes which have been lubricated and have ordered replacment drop links for me.

They also removed a good handfull of small stones from the spring cups.

I think the problem is not at spring cups - the stones etc in it. It seems the sound comes from the bottom of the car - looks like something is knocking into the gearbox or another part of the engine - my friend with vRS and with same problem has replaced the gearbox silent block (6Q0199555K) and the noise disappeared, but only for 700 miles app. We think there must be some problem with construction of some silent block - the engine is too heavy for it or the silent block is too soft for such heavy engine in connection with lowered & harder suspension - it cannot withstand the vibrations and slacks down.

BTW: what

The drop link connects the front strut to the ARB.

ok, thanks but I have new version of this part already so this is not the way. Really nonbody met with this yet???

Hi all

My vrs is 03 MY and I have noticed a a slight suspension 'knock' from the front NS over certain bumps and rippled surfaces, also under initial 'take off' and changing gear from 1st/2nd & 2nd/3rd there is a mild klack/klonk noise as the clutch is depressed.

I am now wondering whether the two noises are related based on the thread about the gearbox mounting.

Love the username! Am i the only person in the world who was peculiarly drawn to Servalan??!!

Seriously though, i have heard this "Twonking" noise a couple of times since I brought the car, sounds a lot like what people are posting about. Had the car, from new, only about a month. It's a bit alarming on the odd occassion that i have heard it, is it anything to worry about? I mean, my suspension isn't likely to give way or anything is it?

Hi guys, my vrs is in service today and people there told me they will replace shift cables by rod linkage - they discussed the problem with the factory and got this advice. Tomorrow the car will be ready so I will let you know whether it resolves the problem or not... Many vrs owners here in Czech are frustrated from this problem so much that they consider selling

Had this problem for ages. The following items have been replaced but failed to cure it: McP strut; strut top mounting; ARB drop link. I've also fitted different springs and dampers so it ain't them either. Sounds like Skoda need to get a grip on this problem and find a proper solution...

I hear about this problem all the time, mine was delivered in april 2005, I've done 9,000 miles since then, and currently have no problems at all (apart from hard to shut bonnet) and no weird noises of any kind, mine is driven by learners too, so gets to hit alot of potholes and grates on the front nearside!

so..... maybe they have cured it on the later models...... :)

*sharky hopes so....

Yes, i have trouble closing the bonnett too, have to give it a right "thump"

I have a similar problem with an X reg 1.4 Fabia, done only 30,000miles. Lots of knocking over drain covers at low speed from front right corner. Getting worse. Sound like suspension but could be a loose exhaust pipe mounting or heat shield. Any clues? Will take it to garage soon.

Sounds like the arb links are worn out to me on an x plate Fabia. But id also check that the arb collars havent come off.

I checked the arb and it

Scrub my last post and replace it with:-
