We have had our Octavia for almost a year and the whole time the radio has not worked.

Enough is enough, I need some sound!

 

It needs a code to be added, but although there is a code written on the radio in permanent marker it doesn't work.

 

Does it need to be dealer activated or if I buy another head unit off ebay, will that work?

If your car was the original vehicle to which the Stream unit was fitted then the dealer can get the code for about £20-25.

Less if they like you.

Buying a new Skoda unit is an option but make sure you get the code with it.

All CANBUS vehicles store the codes for all HU's that have been fitted.

What if it is not the original car it was fitted to? And is there a way I can find out?

I know we have an ex-police car, so chances are the radio was removed.

In theory the dealer needs to know the VIN if the originating vehicle to be able to get the code.

With Stream units changing hands for not much more than the code and Stream MP3 units for about £60-80, it might be time for an upgrade if the dealer can't/won't help you.

Or go non-OE.

Well a dealer quoted £40 and said they needed at least 30 minutes and had to plug the car in... so lets forget that.

Strange how the code written on the radio unit won't unlock it?
